Earlier this month I gave notice on our warehouse as our needs have changed over the last 6 months and so has our relationship with one of our clients. There has been a legal process ongoing which has not been fun and highly stressful involving our client.
The land lord was not amused is an under statement and when you consider he built a firewall to keep us as tenants so we could meet the insurers regulations being fire compliant. This was not planned and can understand why he was slightly upset at hearing my news. I told him this is business and nothing personally and something we have to do what is in the best interest of the business which is the truth.
Two weeks ago we were meant to meet and he went AWOL with no contact until yesterday. In the meantime we had done this officially in writing and thought that would be the end of this. Yesterday he mentioned that we have to meet as this is not official until we have met. This is new to me and is kind of making up the rules as we go so I will humor him and meet him this week.
Nothing is easy these days and nothing ever goes smoothly as there is always some type of game being played. The game here was to delay to gain another months rent and this is highly obvious if you are the one paying the rental. The relationship we had as landlord and tenant changed which has been great for 3 years and is no longer what I would call amicable.
No one saw this coming and this was definitely not planned, but was forced on us through our clients needs. The warehouse served it's purpose and as far as I am concerned we move on from here. The having to meet is a first for me and as far as I am concerned without having to go the legal route we are in the right.
there is always a new trick in the book you have never seen before and as shocked as I am I knew this would not be straight forward and why I was tasked with handling this. There is always the dead give away when you get given a task no one wants to do and you are it.
He is a businessman who wants to guarantee one more month rental so we would have given a 60 day notice period. I do get from where he is coming and he has done what we have asked of him so I am not peeved at his request as much as I thought I would be. This is a meeting him halfway I guess and I would not want to burn any bridges over one months extra rental which I will most likely get back anyway.
The new premises we have currently as we have moved already is totally different to a normal warehouse and can chop and change our size or needs daily. This actually saves us so much on expenses with no wastage so you are never paying for dead space.
