Nothing unusual about the title as Scotsmen in general have been known to be careful over their pennies. i am not saying all and there are exceptions like our dear old friend 
This one is about a relative of my family who was a tight bastard but a distant one so this is not how the cryptoandcoffee's behave and in fact we are quite the opposite and probably why we have to live fairly frugally. I will always pay my debt and will face the consequences head first. You may say what has this to do with sport and are ready to flag me so here goes.
If you are a golfer it is wise to take out an insurance policy that covers you in case you get a hole in one. The likelihood of that happening is like a million to one, but one never knows. We always aim for the flag so it should happen at some point in our careers.
This relative we will call Tim which is very close to his name anyway was known to be a tight person and he was Scottish. He was retired and was playing at his country club in South Africa. Most club houses on the housing estates become the local watering hole for everyone so the clubhouse is normally packed and fairly festive on most weekdays.
Tim was playing in a four ball in a local competition with a fairly large field of entrants. I have no idea what hole he was on but it was either the 14 th or 15th hole that he scored the magical hole in one. Everyone who was in his group were whooping around and screaming as none of them had seen this before. The whole clubhouse knew what had happened and everyone would have got onto their phones to get their mates down to the clubhouse.
This is what the insurance policy is for as the "lucky" golfer who scores a hole in one buys the drinks for everyone in the clubhouse. Tim never had an insurance policy as he never thought he would ever achieve this. After his round of golf Tim never went to the clubhouse and climbed in his car and went home. He was terrified of how much this was going to cost him. Unfortunately it is the clubs rules like in most clubs that you have to pay and they forwarded him the bill which was rather large for those days and even today I would balk at it.It was over $3000 and people still talk about this hole in one and the disappearing man called Tim.
His legacy lives on like a folk tale even though he has been gone for over 15 years now. Maybe the insurance companies are the ones pushing it to get some extra policies to cover this rare phenomenon.
