Being aware living in a crime ridden country is very important. It becomes second nature after a while and one looks for things that others who are not used to it wouldn't. I have always thought of why we accept to live this way and we have choices.

The choices some have made is to pack up and leave. Others have made the decision to arm themselves for protection. The problem is you can only do so much for your families protection. You could move into an enclosed area that has an electrified fence as a perimeter and armed guards at the entrances. This is fine but you still have to leave the secure zone to go to do daily things.

I was visiting my mother in England late last year and the freedom to be able to go and walk and not to have to worry. I am sure there is crime there as well as I know because I used to live there. It's a different type of crime though with no hatred involved. I used to call it sneaky crime and unless you were the victim no one really knew.

It's totally different here and you need to look for things that are out of the ordinary. Possibly a car following you back home and maybe a possible hijacking. It could be a piece of paper stuck to your gate or on your property fence used as a signal as a possible target for break ins. If you live outside of a secure zone you have to be on your toes and be aware all the time.

There are some really horrific horror stories that you can't fathom the cruelty and thought process involved. A few years ago a couple were robbed at home during the night and not happy with their takings the thieves put the couples 4 month old baby in the microwave and asked for more money. I would have lost it by then ,but these sickos are on our streets.

The police are unfortunately involved with a high percentage of the crimes in one way or another. Trying to fix a society that is so broken is not easy but the quickest way is too fight fire with fire. This would still take time but that is my solution. There will be a point where this has to happen and vigilantes will have to sort this out.

I was nearly involved in something a while back when both my back tires were slashed with a knife whilst in traffic. It wasn't at night time but the middle of the day. I drove away to safety but what would someone else have done?

What made me think of this today is one of our friends was attacked at home last night and is in hospital fighting for his life. They are not rich people but were obviously soft targets. The older you become the softer you become in their eyes. Soon everyone will be living in electrified compounds if you can afford it. This is no way to live.
