A mobile BitShares wallet, an "Uber for money" could fulfill our crypto mainstreaming dreams.
Before crypto started changing the world, we all remember the story of the first time a pizza was bought with crypto. Although arraignments were made ahead of time, a driver showed up with a pizza, BitCoin was transferred and the rest is history. Now I think it is time to reverse that process. We need Crypto-Delivery drivers to fully launch a crypto revolution.
We need an app that you can press a button and have someone show up and collect cash and give you crypto-currency. It would be an on-call money-changer.
It would be “Uber for Crypto.”
It would be an AirBnB for money.
One of the biggest problems right now, as far as getting into cryptocurrency is getting the first bitcoin. KYC laws, credit card limits and banks have decided they do not want to play well with crypto.
Well, when their entire business model is about to become obsolete, who can blame them?
So BitShares is best known as a decentralized online exchange. It is a location where you can trade bitcoin for litecoin or other currencies. Bitshares also has user friendly names, ability to transfer money worldwide and is much faster with transactions only taking a few seconds.
Bitshares could be the banking backbone of all future monetary transactions.
How do we do that?
Right now, one of the difficulties is getting into and out of cryptocurrency. There is a site local bitcoins that will help people to meet up locally. This would be similar expect better, and mobile.
Right now there are also these things called dating apps, you may have heard about them. So basically, I want to duct tape a dating app and a cryptocurrency wallet together. It would allow you to meet up with people to exchange currency and it would keep everyone safe with user profiles and ratings. NOW there are a few problems. LET me address them first.
Problem #1: Robbery
You can be robbed anywhere, however, this app would have several ways to counter this threat. Let’s copy the success, of AirBNB and UBER in have two way ratings and verified customers. Both parties would need to agree to meet up and exchange money before more information is known about the other party. Just like UBER or airBNB we could require facebook profiles, phone number verification, transaction history, past ratings and account limits. This data could be saved on a severs, in the block chain or a myriad or other places. If you get robbed or murdered, we want enough evidence to catch the person who did it. I would imagine a verified mobile number, a snapshot of the person and a past transaction rating would be good enough, but in some locations more tools might be needed.
Problem#2 Meeting up.
Lets take a page from the dating apps. Let’s use GPS coordinates. Every time a user opens the app, their GPS coordinates are pulled. Their location goes into a database. Whether they are wanting money of wanting crypto and the appropriate type is put in and then we match them up to the closest 10 users. This is basically what UBER does already. It sounds really complicated until you realize you just have the person match one GPS to a few thousand others in the region. Computers do this fast.
Example: Supplier Case Study
Bob is a big ex-military man who used to drive an armored truck, but now drives for Uber. He put a few thousand dollars into crypto and has the app on his phone. Between Uber runs he will buy and sell crypto. His set fee for showing up is $10. He will collect money or give you money. He will buy crypto or sell crypto. The app keeps track of his available balances. Whenever someone wants money -or crypto- it tells him how much the person requesting, the contact suggests a meetup point. Bob knows who is meeting –from the picture, phone number, and the profile rating. They know that as well. Once and meeting is agreed upon, there is a cancelation fee, and mandatory two way rating of the exchange.
Case Study: Consumer
Carl wants crypto. He downloads the app, agrees to buy an X amount of BitUSD and presses a button. Various suppliers shows up, he requests Bob to meet him. He is able to get the crypto faster and cheaper and the fee is little more than an ATM withdrawl fee. Any currency is available or he can easily convert to another one with the app. Carl can save, invest in ICO’s, send the money to a friend or even send the money around the world at the click of a button. This could revolutionize remittance.
Case Study Sally Flower Shop.
Sally has a flower shop. She wants to take crypto. She downloads the app and then accepts crypto. To keep her accounting simple initially, every Friday, she has Bob stop by, he buys all her crypto and gives her cash. He picks up the crypto, as easily as the regular banks armored car picks up cash. Being a slow day at the flower shop Sally, also discovers she can sell the crypto. She enables “supplier” on the app, and someone in the area wants money, or wants to deposit crypto she earns a fee. The requester, always pays the fee and she can make as much money from selling crypto as selling flowers. In the free market, she can adjust the fee to whatever she wants.
The compounded effects.
Soon, word gets out. Bob tells his Uber driver friends about all the extra money he makes, Sally tells all the people at the Small Business Luncheon about how she is making more money and paying less in credit card fee, Bob, the former armored truck driver takes cash back and forth to where it is needed. Soon everyone in town can buy, sell and use crypto easily. No one pays visa fees. The Crypto world view is realized. Everyone who has money they want to deposit can either drop by a merchant and deposit it or sell it directly to a friend or another individual. Crypto just becomes the way you pay for things and suddenly the Bankster go out of business.
Bitshares Backend
All of these transactions can go through Bitshares. In most cases the merchants can accept BitUSD so they do not need to worry about crypto volatility, or their app will aslo instantly translate cryptocurrency to the one they are using. Bitshares can do all currency translations, all currency transfers and provide all banking backend services. Bitshares has effectively replaced the banking system in this small town, and every village in the world by having local currencies available for trade. A village in Venezuela screwed up by hyperinflation or a village in Africa with banks, all can use this financial system just as easily.
Getting there.
Duck tape. All we need is a dating meetup app, a map app and a crypto currency wallet combined. This is not that much different than Pokemongo. Instead of battling at a gym, you are picking up cash or crypto. Android phones are cheap and plentiful there is a world of opportunity.
Bitshares already provides the needed back end. By building on top of that there is already user friendly names, an open auditable blockchain, and crypto currencies denominated in the value of local currencies (bitUSD, bitCNY). This means one app can rule the world. It can allow for instant banking in messed up places like Venezuela, or elsewhere.
This is why Bitshares needs a mobile wallet!
Are there any mobile developers out there?
