Halloween has come and gone and our Maine Coon is housebound for the next couple of seasons. Since moving to a quiet suburban neighbourhood the cats have been dreaming of being at one with nature. Like human, like cat?
Crypticat loves sitting by the open window. Doesn't matter which season it is, there are birds in the trees and fresh air. Even when she has the opportunity to go out, she never ventures beyond the yard.
The windows are at that perfect height and the window sills are just wide enough to make the best seats in the house. Luckily we have a few good windows so they don't have to fight for their place.
The Coon is the Alpha cat. She claimed the cat house, she claims most of the best spots and she does as she pleases.
The relationship is odd. Crypticat is larger than the Coon. The Coon looks like an angel at times but she is a more aggressive and energetic cat.
Coons are curious and they have amazing personalities. She follows me around half the day, sleeps at my desk, runs around like a maniac and does her daily patrols.
Crypticat prefers to sit, she has her places. The less dominant cat tends to get fat which is so true. Since we got the Coon, Crypticat has put on a lot of weight.
The Coon loves going outside. We slowly introduced her to the immediate neighbourhood She will follow me out when I do lawn work. She runs outside as soon as we open the door.
But only when the weather is decent. Decent means above five degrees, no snow, no rain. We considered getting a cat door, but we have figured out how to keep the door slightly ajar and put a thick curtain over the door to keep out most of the bugs and wind.
The Coon found a good spot under the cantilever. It's annoying when she's under there and it starts to rain, then you know she's going to track mud all over the house.
There's no place like home. While they like being outside on a sunny day for a couple of hours, Crypticat and the Coon are bonafide, certified house cats.
