I put out a d.buzz post on this, but then figured it deserved a deeper write-up.
Remember Sybil? She was the woman with 14-ish personalities, supposedly. It's a wild story about Shirley Ardell Mason (her real name), wild 70s novel, then TV movie, then later movie, and wild "hidden paintings" artwork found after her death. Truly a wild story, a bit of conspiracy theory with her doctor, and a bit creepy.
Tech-types know of the "Sybil attack", where an attacker creates a bunch of identities to hit a server with the goal of overwhelming it. It gets its name from Shirley Mason's "Sybil." But, none of this is why I'm writing. 🙂
"Hive" is Sybil-like. Those of us who've been here for some time have heard this before: the name "Hive" takes on many forms when it comes to technology-based things. I've somehow been collecting Hive names. Currently, the list is up to eleven.

Again, this multiple Hives news is nothing new, so, there's no reason to belabor it. What I did find somewhat new, and in the good news department, is this: a Google search for "hive blockchain" has our Hive, the https://hive.io Hive, as the number one result.
This is good. The last time I'd checked something like this (it's been well over a year, I think), "hive blockchain" resulted in the now so-called HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd organization at the top. That's a corporation that mines bitcoin and other cryptos, I believe, and which holds the domain hiveblockchain.com. Our hive.io was down the list, not even number two or three, if I recall correctly.
What I noticed new today was that the hiveblockchain.com corporation must have rebranded. If I recall correctly, they used to call themselves "Hive Blockchain something something." Now, their name is different and their URL is different to match their name: https://hivedigitaltechnologies.com. Although our hive.io chain is listed number one, HIVE Digital Technologies still, for some reason, got the highlighted "showcase" box in the image at right.
All-in-all though, this is good. There's more of a divergence between the two entities, and our hive.io is tops in the search. I think that was a smart move for HIVE digital as well. They really are not a blockchain company at all. My guess is that they grabbed that URL when "blockchain" was the word du jour in the space. It's worth noting that they obviously still own https://hiveblockchain.com because it autoforwards to hivedigitaltechnologies.com. Oh well.
Also maybe worth noting, I noticed today that an alert emerges on their site as below:
And the READ MORE goes to this page https://hivedigitaltechnologies.com/news/hive-impostor-alert-2/ which seems a bit ripe for updating. I'm not saying they haven't been impersonated, but someone reading that notice could easily misconstrue our https://hive.io Hive as a "bad actor."
The overall point they're making, however, is well-taken: the name "Hive" can be confusing in the blockchain and technology space.
All that said, I'll take the good news: "hive blockchain" is number one on Google now and the HIVE mining company (which does not mine HIVE), is number two.
