but I couldn’t be more pleased and happy with how my life turned out.
I’ve always wanted to teach. It was in me before I was even aware. Little ol’ me at a young age would try to teach those who were younger. I had a desire to guide them to stay out of trouble and focus on things that mattered.
I was seen as a big sister even though I was the baby in my family. I loved helping others understand things and the reward of seeing their faces once they comprehended was all worth the effort.
I remember during my school days imagining I was the one in front of the chalkboard teaching the students new concepts and problem solving techniques. I wanted to be the one calling on students with hands raised to answer my questions.
The funny part about it was I was so shy and very timid but the love of teaching flowed through my heart and over-rid that part of me. As I learned and grew I wanted others to do the same. All those willing to listen I shared my knowledge with.
I did work towards this goal. I pursued a teaching career right out of high school and worked at many daycares and early childhood education centers along the way.
The more and more opportunities I had to work with children I knew it was my niche. Teaching was who I was and what I wanted to do.
I later on figured out I had a gift for working with children with behavioral challenges. When others gave up on them I wanted to help and support them even more. I became the go to person when things got out of hand.
I was able to find a way to connect with them and help them calm down and try to understand what their needs were. Those kiddos are the ones I remember most from my early childhood teaching days. Working with them really had an impact on me. I appreciate even the rough times because they only made me wiser and stronger.
How you ask?
By starting a homeschool and teaching my own children. Once we started expanding our family I knew I wanted to stay home with my babies.
I may have not finished my education degree but was well equipped to give my children a wonderful foundation and the tools they needed for an enriched education.
I may have not ever taught in a public school but our homeschool is sufficient and deemed as a valuable asset for our family.
I may not have ended up in front of a chalkboard but our dry erase board does the job just fine and I have called on my children whom are my students to answer my questions. 😌
The outcome may look different but the goal was still attained.
I am a teacher of five amazing kiddos and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am so thankful to be the one teaching them!
With the addition of joining the homeschool co-op I am still privileged to experience some of those public school perks like enjoying the teacher’s lounge. 😄
I have always wanted to teach. Why not utilize all this love, passion and excitement to teach my own? It was the best result for me and for my family.
