If I had the option to choose between traditional school or homeschooling, then I would definitely choose homeschooling. Because in my country education system is not good at all. I am a student and I am sharing this from my own experience. There may be some people saying you will get higher education if you are in a well known institute. But that's not the solution, the education system should be the same everywhere. So, yeah I will share the reason for choosing it. I have my own valid points. So, at school we are expected to learn, gain knowledge, perform in exams and get good marks. But do we actually learn from school? From my point of view, not really. I always feel that I am not learning anything from my school, instead I was learning everything at home. If school was teaching me everything I needed then I would never need a tutor at home, right?
But I have a tutor at home. And my tutor is the person who has helped me understand most of the things I struggle with. He is the one who teaches me with all efforts. To be honest, he is not highly paid as we pay at school. But why? He should be getting more salary than the school. Because he is doing what schools are supposed to do. I personally don't think that any coaching classes or tutors are required if the school is teaching properly. Even if someone is studying at a well known institute they would still take coaching classes and have tutors at home.
I think students can't focus when they study with other students because most of the time your classmates or friends would be talking and calling your name. I feel that's a distraction. I have faced this myself, I can't even ignore them. They talk quietly but it's really disturbing, if I truly want to learn something I need to put all of my focus there. On the other hamd, when I study at home, I'm very relaxed and there's no one to distract me. Another thing, that bothers me about school is that sometimes you cannot even ask questions freely. Like not all teachers are the same, so when I don't understand something and ask the teachers about it, some happily explain things. To be honest, I really appreciate their efforts and I feel more respectful towards them. But most of the time some teachers get mad when I ask questions, like do not directly express it but they often say, “You talk a lot.”
But at school talking and asking questions should be a part of learning. If I don't understand, then I should ask. Teacher's are supposed to answer. I am asking because I don't understand, if I don't understand how will I learn? I'm not trying to waste their time. I think most of the teacher don't understand the subject themselves, like they don't have idea about what they are teaching. I think that's why they get annoyed, hehe. They only come to read the text books and not explain. Also, many students stay silent even if they don't understand and they pretend to understand because they are shy or not confident enough. During exams, when these student perform bad then the teachers would get mad, even though teachers are the one at fault. So, if I ask questions, the teacher won’t just satisfy my curiosity, the teacher is also helping the other students who are shy to speak up. Moreover, I pay to learn, not to sit quietly and pretend that I understand everything.
So, for these reasons homeschooling appeals to me. At home, I can spend more time on the subjects I find difficult and move faster through the things I already know. About socializing parents can send their children to the park to play outside, go out with their friends, let them learn new skills, go to the library, play online games which can help them to learn how to communicate. Children can learn from anywhere they do not need to depend completely on a fixed system. Also, children are not always able to make friends at school, it's not necessary to have friends from the school only. They can make friends from any places. A homeschooled child should not be kept inside the house all day. They can join sports club, activities and communities.
I understand why going school is important to many people, because we live in a society where going to school is considered almost compulsory. Most of the parents want to show off by saying, “My child studies at this famous school,” than asking whether their child is actually learning. They care more about showing others how reputed the school is. For me, education is not about the name of the institution or how impressive it sounds. It is about learning, school should be a place to gain knowledge and it should be like our backbone.
So if I had the choice, I would choose homeschooling with proper social interaction over simply attending school because society says that is what everyone should do.
