The biggest mistake was making it to P2E and presenting it this way in the first place. Splinterlands is not charity and we have somehow lost sight of this.

The game experience, shepherding of the ecosystem, and marketing are imperative to the success of the project.

Locking up rewards cards behind SPS or DEC burns would be a good idea. Cannot do it with the existing Rewards cards, but the end of the current Rewards cards run can start on February 1, 2023 and we can move forward with new Rewards cards that require more hoops to go through. Including a requirement that the cards must be combined to make it eligible would be good as well. Bot farms are all about the quick turnaround on sales.

In the meantime, we need to be raising the rates of rentals on Level 1 cards and Splex is not adjusting prices properly so larger holders are actually placing price caps on rentals.

Getting rid of starter cards on accounts with more than 2 weeks of age would also be a great move. Making cards that are underleveled ineligible for play in Ranked Rewards is a step forward as well.
