Bucharest celebrates books by many fairs; now it's Bookfest time at the biggest exposition center - Romexpo, for five days, in period 30th of May-3rd of June. There are special places and events for kids-good idea as yesterday was international children's day-and the guest of honour is USA. The access is free of charge. I've visited the fair yesterday for a few hours. It was very hot weather in Bucharest, but inside we've enjoyed the coolness of a new and bigger space.
Bookfest and Gaudeamus - the autumn fair - are the perfect occasion for authors to launch their new books. Of course you can buy the books after fair too, but the beauty of these launches is the discussion between the author and the guests - other authors, critics, editors - their presence, their and your emotions, the autographs. Except some unfortunate times, they never tell you the book, you can still read it not knowing how it ends, but you have the chance to find out important details which will make you understand better. For example: the author explains how he started to write the book then he stopped for twelve years, why he stopped and what he wrote in between. Or, he explains how writing a book makes him understand himself better because he has to answer the question where the story came from as he never lived such happenings.
It was such a joy to see so many children. Luckly, yesterday the parents had a vacation day and could bring childen to the fair. Almost each editure has special places for kids and there are many launches of books for children. I participated at one of them. There were 4 books and each author/translator said a few words. At the end, children were asked questions and received prizes in books.I bought one myself. It's for 12+ and it is at first translation in Romanian.
Anyone else reading 12+ books? 馃槉
