Hi again!
I'm happy to help a bit if I can...๐ But, please don't take my remarks as "gospel," I am no expert in the English language... Please consider the following (mostly) suggestions, and seek confirmation from an expert...๐
Here's the (obvious) misspelling I noticed:
"He took of the baseball hat..."
This seemed unusual to me:
"...few feets away from the door..."
I think a few feet away might sound more natural? But I do recognize that there are so many different local variations in the English language that I am unfamiliar with!๐ Another usage of number that I found jarring, but which may be a "local variation" occurs in the second sentence. I am simply not used to "furnitures" as a plural, and would have expected "furniture" as more common usage there.
"... knight in shiny armor..."
This is an unusual variation on the phrase "knight in shining armor"โwhich may be just fine, as long as it is intentional on your part.๐
And now, finally, for the specific question of verb tense:
"when she'd began to knead him" โ> "when she'd begun to knead him"
I'm pretty sure that you want the past participle, begun, in this context.
But there are a couple more paragraphs I struggled with a bit, and I think my struggle may be much more subjective. In other wordsโand especially for these last casesโplease get other opinions?๐
I think you might improve the verb tense, agreement, and flow within the last three paragraphs:
"He still remembers..." โ> "He still remembered..."
And, here is my recommendation for the final paragraph:
"He's wasted enough time on memories, with five boisterous grandchildren awaiting him at the park. Shaking his head,..."
Well, those are my detailed observations and suggestions; but it is your story, and any changes you may or may not make are entirely up to you! I am so glad Hive allows for editing!
And my friend @deraaa, please know this: the only reason I've made these suggestions is because I love your story so much, and would hope to see it perfected. You have done a spectacular job, and I agree with everything
@theinkwell has said. And I am glad you are eager to improve your craft!
I look forward to reading more of your work. Thanks for this delightful story.
