One I would like to recommend.
Finished watching Marco Polo a week ago. Great historical intrigue show about the Kublai Khan as he struggles to push the legacy of Genghis Khan even further, while also seeking the best way to be a just ruler. He struggles with making the right choices for the people of the empire even when it means being ruthless and cruel to his opponents. Marco Polo evolves from a prisoner to becoming one of Kublai's most trusted advisors, and he wrestles with whether his dream is to escape or to serve. Sifu is the most interesting character, as the imprisoned blind Monk philosopher with amazing martial arts skills; blackmailed by the Khan to serve or have the ancient Chinese sacred texts destroyed. The final episode tied together so many good plotlines in a battle where East collides with West.
I'll have to check out The Kingdom. Love British and European historical dramas when there is lots of action and battles involved. Just started watching Medici, and it seems to be about the merchant bankers of Italy playing politics with the Pope to become rich and powerful.
