It began March 23. It ended last week. Our self-quarantine, shelter in place and epic binge watching of TV shows that I never knew existed. Even though our state is still under our governor's executive order to remain sheltered in place (lock down), Mr Golden D's work place became an "essential certified business" and he is back to work. Our current "stay home" order is in place until May 28. TEN MORE DAYS! But who knows if it will be extended. Our state has been making the national news due to the protests at our capital (Lansing, Michigan).

But since Mr Golden D was sent home on March 23 (just eight weeks ago) we began looking for some TV shows to watch during our "down time". Granted we did accomplish some chores and tasks around the homestead (when it wasn't raining), but as a reward for completing these jobs, we would watch a TV shows into the wee hours of the morning. And I discovered five older or made for "Netflix or Amazon Prime Video" that I absolutely LOVED!

Downton Abbey

This historical drama follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in the family's Edwardian country house. The programme begins with the 1912 sinking of the Titanic, which leaves Downton Abbey's future in jeopardy, as Lord Grantham's presumptive heir -- his cousin James -- and his son, Patrick, die aboard the ship, leaving him without a male offspring to take over the throne upon his death. As a result, Lord Grantham must search for a new heir. As the programme progresses through the decade, other historical events happen leading up to Lord Grantham declaring in 1914 that Britain is at war with Germany, marking the beginning of World War I, which becomes a major plot on the program

I never thought of myself as a soap opera viewing person, but this TV series had me hooked from the first moment we started watching it.
They added in historical moments (ie. the Titanic tragedy, the Spanish Flu of 1918; ironic to be watching this while going through our own pandemic and more) that I could really appreciate as we watched the lives of not only the Earls, Lords and Duchesses but also the butler, maids and other household staff.

The Last Kingdom

As a child, Uhtred witnessed his father being killed and the Saxon army defeated by invading troops. Danish warlord Earl Ragnar captured Uhtred and raised him in a Danish camp alongside fellow captive Brida, a sharp-tongued girl. Years later, Uhtred is a valiant warrior who is dealt another tragic blow when his home is deliberately set on fire, killing his surrogate family, including Ragnar. Now exiled -- alone except for Brida by his side -- he vows to avenge Ragnar's death and reclaim his homeland. But, he must choose between his birth country and the people who raised him. If he is going to help birth a new nation and ultimately recapture his ancestral land he must walk dangerous path between both sides

We are already fans of History channel's Vikings so it just made sense to see what The Last Kingdom was all about since Vikings are in between seasons right now.

I just have an inner fascination with vikings in general and how they lived, survived and conquered. It's just exciting for me; what can I say.

How To Get Away With Murder

Annalise Keating (Oscar- and Tony-winning actress Viola Davis), a brilliant, charismatic and seductive professor of defense law, teaches a class called How to Get Away With Murder. Annalise, also a criminal defense attorney, selects a group of students -- the best and the brightest -- to assist with cases at her firm alongside her employees, the trustworthy and discreet Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) and Bonnie Winterbottom ("Gilmore Girls" alum Liza Weil), an associate attorney. Mysteries arise that test everyone's limits and reveal dark truths

Now this one threw me for a loop! I've never been a fan of murder mysteries (whether in book reading or TV shows) but this one? Oh Lord! It has you wondering through every season... Who Done It! And I have to say, when I found out who done it a few times.... My JAW DROPPED! We still have season 6 to watch... so no spoilers PLEASE!

Outlander

After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humour. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. `Outlander' is adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon

My mom had told me about this one a few months ago and we just never found time in our normal life to sit and watch, but let me tell you... it IS A FABULOUS show! I keep yelling at the TV screen... You can't do that, you'll change history!
The trials and tribulations of Jamie and Claire Fraser and then Brianna and Roger are just amazing. Well written script and... oh you just have to watch it!

Ozark

Created by Bill Dubuque ("The Accountant," "The Judge"), this drama series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who relocates his family from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Ozarks. With wife Wendy and their two kids in tow, Marty is on the move after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong, forcing him to pay off a substantial debt to a Mexican drug lord in order to keep his family safe. While the Byrdes' fate hangs in the balance, the dire circumstances force the fractured family to reconnect

We had already watched the first two seasons of this Netflix original show and when season 3 came out we were so excited! The acting... the script.. the drug cartel and I have to say my favorite character here is Ruth. She's just pure heaven for me from her quips and sarcasm to her strength. LOVE her!
