I always find it very interesting when I meet new people, because it doesn’t happen every day for me, as per being a "shy person" and all that (Oops!🥹 God knows I want to stop using that word to describe myself, but for now, let’s move on🌝)

So, I met this really nice lady at my school mother's apartment when I went visiting three days ago. She was so free with me, like she knew me on a personal level before that time. It didn’t take me much time to vibe with her as well.

We were having a conversation two days ago and one thing led to another, and then we found ourselves talking about how the poor actually spends more than the rich. We did the math and assessed many scenarios, and this got us like ‘Wow! Just wow’

Although, before now, I had thought about it randomly, but talking to someone about the same topic brought forth more revelations.

So, according to our evaluations, the poor actually spend more than the rich. I mean, when it comes to actual necessities and basic things everyone needs to have. She told me how she visited someone, and when she was taking a tour around the house, she saw a separate room that was filled with foodstuffs in bulk. Really large quantities this time around. She said, and I quote, ‘I have seen stores with foodstuffs before, but this one was exceptional. I had never seen something like that in my entire life’.

She said the person has food and food items that can last up to a year and even beyond. According to her, there was everything in that room--Bags of rice, Kegs of vegetable and palm oil, noodles in cartons, salt, tomato paste, etc. The funny part is that the person would have definitely gotten everything at a subsidized rate. So, even if things get more expensive during the course of the year, he would not even flinch. That’s soft life!🥹

Now, Imagine someone buying the same food items little by little throughout the whole year. By calculation, much more would be spent compared to the amount that bulk food items would have cost.

Don’t get me wrong though, I am not looking down on people that can’t afford these things at once (Even myself or my family can not do that at the moment, where the money dey?😂). Because at the end of the day, not everyone can afford to buy these things at once. If we all had access to that kind of soft life, who would hesitate to explore it? I am sure no-one would mind living in comfort But then, the fact still remains that, when it comes to certain things, the rich actually has an advantage over the poor to spend less than them.

She also mentioned this other scenario where a friend of hers does data subscription that can last for a year. Another beautiful thing about this plan is that, apart from the fact that it comes at a discounted price, it also includes some side attractions.

She then proceeded to calculate how much she spends on data in a year, due to the nature of her job. Guess what guys, it was 2x the amount her friend spends on data per year. In fact, it was at that moment that she realized.

The funny thing is that she might even be able to afford that annual data, but it would be hard to just pull out that huge amount at once for mere data, not knowing she would actually spend more in the long run. Well, I am sure she knows better now.

In a way, that conversation will have a lot of effect on the way I approach matters concerning the purchase of goods or services. If I am able to afford something I need in bulk, I would not hesitate to buy, even if the price appears to be too much at that moment. Soft life! (Hashtag thinking of the future😂)

I would have loved to go on and on, talking about other scenarios that support my claim, but then, I would love to hear from you as well. Do you also agree that the rich actually spend less than average or poor people do? Why?

Thank you so much for reading❤️
