Do you move a plant when you move? Do you take a piece of yourself?

Oh yes. The first thought I always have is what shall I do with my plants in case I move or I have to make changes in my life. I feel like they are a part of me , my babies, who have been with me in my highs and lows. I could not just give them away or throw them. So I can perfectly understand why you took some plantsy souvenirs from that home.
