Merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream!
Here are some images from our second trip down this stretch of the Colorado River with a big group of #burnerfam friends. We met at the Hoover Dam Lodge to pile into the vanpool awaiting us. Then we launched a magical flotilla through the surreal Black Canyon, solid rock sliced up by countless hot spring slot canyons.
The canoe wranglers laugh because our group doesn't travel lightly--we're packing a generator and soundsystem, as well as a dutch oven pizza kitchen, not to mention all the glamping luxuries we bring to all our desert parties.
@mattlovell added a Pirate Queen flag to our vessel.
One of the first stops down river is Gold Strike hot springs canyon. You can hike 6 miles down from the Lodge, or you can float gently down the stream right to the mouth of the ravine.
Hot water rains down from numerous spouts directly from the living stone walls.
Strange formations of algae and mineral deposits turn Gold Strike into a colorful dreamscape.
It hangs above the Colorado River like a castle of chasms. Most of our group stripped and soaked in the large hot water pools. (Privacy over pics.)
Back down on the river, we took our time checking out small coves hoping to catch some fish.
@mattlovell cast his lures repeatedly, with no bites all weekend.
Although the fishing came up zilch, I truly enjoyed hanging out in the brushy beaches looking for game trails and daydreaming.
Friday finished as we all unpiled onto Arizona Hot Springs beach. After this first leg of our three day adventure, I put away my phone and just soaked up the good time with good people. So this year, I have no photos of the caveman chicken I cooked directly in the campfire, the firespinning dance party, or any more of the gorgeous scenery.
Not even the triumph I felt after climbing a very tall and slimy ladder to the amazing hot spring pools near our camp. Sometimes in life, you've got to unplug completely and just bask naked on a private beach while your honey fishes the emerald depths.
