I still have my problem with my work computer. DELL technical support did not show up on the scheduled date. Well, that's a situation for IT to resolve, but on the other hand I'm using my own laptop at work, which brings me to today's point.
I purchased a notebook a few years ago, probably 10 years ago, from e-commerce Submarino, a company from the B2W group. B2W was an e-commerce company founded in 2006 from the merger of the virtual stores Submarino and Americanas.com. Although the brands continue to exist today, billing and deliveries were "unified". In 2021, however, B2W ceased to exist. The company merged with Lojas Americanas S.A. and gave rise to a single conglomerate, called Americanas S.A., which controls both the group's physical stores and e-commerce brands.

Well, for a few years the information on old orders was unavailable, but for some reason I was now able to access the purchase date: February 27, 2013! This is how my Notebook N450 Intel Core i7 6GB 750GB LED 14 W7P - LG arrived in the family, and as I was a fan of spreadsheets and comparisons, it is clear that this purchase was very well thought out to allow for some upgrades.
The amount paid at the time was 1800BRL / 818USD [Exchange rate at the time 2.20 BRL/US], using some discounts that at that time were more "real" than the current "blackfridays".
The first improvement I made was in 2020 when I purchased 2 Ram memory sticks of 4Gb each, totaling 8Gb. The value at the time was 146BRL / 27 USD [Exchange rate at the time 5.23 BRL/US]. This gave my machine a new lease of life, but it didn't last long! I discovered that when we have memory sticks on hand, we can work miracles, and in a short time one of the sticks was removed and implanted in another notebook in the house. In other words, now I'm only operating with 4Gb Ram!
The second improvement I made was replacing the slow Hard Disk with a Solid State Drive, the price of which seemed very cheap to me! It was just 89BRL / 17USD [Exchange rate at the time 5.20 BRL/US]. That really made a big difference, and from then on I started using Windows 10 because with it the startup was extremely fast, with the computer turning on and ready for use in 14 seconds (at the time, I took the measurement).
I chose to purchase 120Gb due to the lower price, and because I was sure I could work with two partitions (system + data), where I had already started to store things in the clouds, in addition to having two disks for external use and backup.
The third improvement was an acquisition in September where I intend to exchange the SSD for another with better performance. The investment was absurdly cheap, just 37BRL / 7.5USD [Exchange rate of the day 4.92 BRL/US].
That's less than half of what I paid in the past! I took the opportunity to compare Ram memory prices while writing this post, and current prices are also close to half the amount paid in previous years.
I intend to replace the disk using cloning, something I don't have much experience with. Next, I want to bring the results of the disk speed test and the real-world test: system startup.
My idea is to do this this week and possibly post the results next week!

Continuo com o meu problema com relação ao computador de trabalho. A assistência técnica DELL não compareceu na data marcada. Bom, isso é uma situação para o setor de TI resolver, mas por outro lado eu estou usando meu próprio notebook no trabalho, o que me trouxe ao ponto de hoje.
Eu adquiri um notebook a alguns anos atrás, provavelmente 10 anos atrás, no comércio eletrônico Submarino, uma empresa do grupo B2W. Bom, por alguns anos as informações dos pedidos antigos estavam indisponíveis, mas por alguma razão agora pude acessar a data da compra: 27 de fevereiro de 2013! Foi assim que o meu Notebook N450 Intel Core i7 6GB 750GB LED 14 W7P - LG chegou na família, e como eu era aficionado em planilhas e comparativos, é claro que essa compra foi muito bem pensada para permitir alguns upgrades.
O valor pago na época foi 1800BRL / 818USD [Câmbio da época 2,20 BRL/US], usando alguns descontos que naquele tempo eram mais "reais" do que as atuais "blackfridays".
A primeira melhoria que fiz foi em 2020 quando adquiri 2 pentes de memória Ram de 4Gb cada, totalizando 8Gb. O valor da época foi 146BRL / 27 USD [Câmbio da época 5,23 BRL/US] . Isso já fez minha máquina ganhar uma nova vida, mas durou pouco! Descobri que quando temos pentes de memória na mão, podemos fazer milagres, e em pouco tempo um dos pentes foi removido e implantado em outro notebook da casa. Ou seja, agora estou operando apenas com 4Gb Ram!
A segunda melhoria que fiz foi substituir o lento Hard Disk por um Solid State Drive, cujo valor me pareceu muito barato! Foram apenas 89BRL / 17USD [Câmbio da época 5,20 BRL/US]. Isso sim fez muita diferença, e apartir de então passei a utilizar o Windows 10 pois com ele a inicialização ficou extremamente rápida, com o computador ligando e pronto para uso em 14 segundos (na época, eu fiz a medição).
Escolhi a compra por 120Gb devido a valor mais baixo, e por ter certeza que poderia trabalhar com duas particões (sistema + dados), onde eu já tinha começado a guardar coisas nas nuvens, além de ter dois discos para uso externo e backup.
A terceira melhoria foi uma aquisição do mês de setembro onde pretendo fazer a troca do SSD por outro de melhor desempenho. O investimento foi absurdamente barato, apenas 37BRL / 7,5USD [Câmbio do dia 4,92 BRL/US].
Isso é menos do que a metade do que paguei no passado! Aproveitei a oportunidade de comparar os preços das memórias Ram enquanto escrevia este post, e os preços atuais também se aproximam da metade do valor pago nos anos anteriores.
Pretendo fazer a substituição do disco mediante uso de clonagem, coisa que não tenho muita experiência. Na sequência quero trazer os resultados de teste de velocidade dos discos e o teste do mundo real: inicialização do sistema.
Minha ideia é fazer isso nesta semana e possivelmente postar os resultados na próxima!
