The scream I'd heard was coming from this direction. She sounded terrified, scared to death. I looked around, hoping someone would investigate.
Why are they continuing on with their lives as if nothing happened? Did they not hear it? What am I going to do?
There was one alley in front of me, leading up to this small house. All lights were off. I started approaching slowly, carefully. I had this odd feeling that someone was watching me.
I stopped in the front of the house, staring at it, mesmerized. The door was open. Inside, complete darkness. I reached for my phone when someone grabbed my arm.

I turned around. My heart was racing. It was just an old lady. She was holding on to my arm, seemingly waiting for me to speak up.
Was this her house? Did she think I was trespassing? Did she know what's going on?
"I'm sorry", I said, "I did not mean to bother you. Do you live here?"
She just whispered something into my ear and disappeared. Was my mind playing tricks on me?
"That house is evil.", she had told me. That can't be true. A house can't be evil, a house isn't alive.
Then I heard the scream again. In that moment I was overwhelmed by thoughts of ill will. I was drawn to the house. It was asking me to give in.
Then, in the blink of an eye, I was inside, tied to a chair, wondering how I got there. A small note on table, next to an almost burnt out candle, caught my eye. "It's you or her", it said.

I was petrified. I had never been so scared before in my entire life. Was I dreaming? There was no other explanation.
I closed my eyes, hoping that I would wake up, when I saw her. She was extraordinary, so beautiful and full of life. But who was she? "Open your eyes", she said.
So I did. There was another note now, on the table, but I couldn't see what it said. I tried to find a way to get free and, for a moment, I really thought I would.
But she screamed again. And there it was, that feeling of malice, overwhelming me with such dark thoughts.
Why was that happening? I wanted it so badly to stop. "What do you want from me", I shouted. "What is going on?"
Then, out of nowhere, she came to my rescue. She untied me and pointed to the door saying "Go, you don't have much time"
But as I stood up, I could read the note. "If you leave, she dies." it said. Could that be true? I couldn't take that chance. I asked her what that was about, whether she's in danger.
"You have a good heart", she said. "But there's nothing you can do to save me."
"I can't leave knowing that you would die", I told her. "That's not who I am."
"If you don't, you will be trapped in here with me forever."
I thought about it for a moment. An eternity with her, even in this prison, does not sound as bad as leaving her to die. I don't really have a choice.
"I'm not going to leave", I said before closing the door.
Suddenly, the ground started shaking. The house was coming down. I could hear all kinds of screams from all direction as if Hell had broken loose. But even in that chaos, she was calm.
"Thank you!", she said. "Thank you for freeing me! I can finally move on now, I can stop hurting people."
Moments later everything was back to normal. No sign of her, no screams, no dark thoughts, it was over.
"Hey, are you in there?", said someone while knocking on the door. "Mark said he saw you go this way. Come back to the party, bro, you're missing all the fun."
