Once upon a time last week I took Pilot for a hike at one of his favorite parks about 8 miles away from home, as the car drives.
Because this was Pilot's adventure, we wandered around and hiked and played and sniffed and hopped and slurped and didn't do any crow stuff for well over an hour.

But once energies depleted and all smells were smelt and all bladders were emptied, it was crow time.

I wandered us towards a large group of stranger-crows. I procured some snacks. Stood around for a couple minutes and attempted to prove to them that all the crap I was throwing on the ground was trustworthy food and that I wasn't just some erratic humanbeast with a staring problem.

They were unimpressed. Me and my snacks, rejected.

And then...

She flew out of the crowd and landed a few feet away. Walked around me like we were old friends.
Because we are.

Her name is Slappy. She grew up in my neighborhood, a couple blocks from where I live. When I would visit her family, she would do a fly-by and slap me on the shoulder with a wing.
Hence the name.
I used to call her Little Frog when she was a baby because she had such long legs.
She's easy to distinguish by the tiny white patch of feathers on her neck.

I hadn't seen her in a while. Her parents are nesting and don't require her services as helper. I didn't know where she went off to. I had no idea it was all the way down here.

Anyhow, much to the dismay of the other crows, the brave and acquainted Slappy got all the snacks. And me, well, I stood by in disbelief. Of all the parks in all the county on all the days...
Then I came to a conlcusion.

I'm fucking famous.

Awwwwww how cute the end.
