I wish I could see the world as the world thinks I see it
disney paradise pink princess bird on the shoulder bird on the head
utopian happy nature child
naïve
ignorant
blissful
I don't, though
I see you, world
blood and guts and animals hurting killing animals and people hurting killing people and people hurting killing planets and plants and animals and every once in a while animals killing people but it's rarely revenge although who could blame them
crows precious sweet innocents pulling eyeballs from sockets of squirrel roadkill
squirrel that I used to know
used to feed
like any other delicately orphaned disney princess would
I wish I could say childhood maybe
rose colored lenses of youth but not really
mostly it was just lots of yelling and sometimes screaming and coffee cup throwing so much coffee cup throwing and I guess that's why I ended up outside where it's quieter
or staying up late where it's quietest
looks like it though from the outside doesn't it
singing communing with nature all hippie free magical fairy witch flower petals and crow shit in her hair big crooked smile wide blue eyes that pretend to know nothing
feels like that sometimes but I promise
I still see you, world
bespectacled pink has no appeal
rather suffer in grit and grief and empty desire and mourn and long for real and lost and ungrantable wishes dropped like shiny pennies into the murky well from way up high on this miserably clear vista
than not know the vista exists
