Soccer is another name for football, it is a game widely recognised across the world. It has successfully united people from across different nations. Soccer is a game played between two opponent teams, each teams has eleven players. The game lasts for a full time of 90 minutes. Here are some facts you need to know about Soccer game.

💡The history of soccer is traced back to more than 2,000 years ago to acient China, Greece, Rome, and some part of Central America, but the game(Soccer also known as football) was transitioned into the game we all know today.
💡According to the Federation International Football Association (FIFA), more than 240 million people around the world plays soccer regularly.
💡As the sport developed, more rules were implemented and more historical landmarks were set.
For example:-
• The penalty kick was introduced in 1891
• FIFA became a member of the International Football Association Board of Great Britain in 1913
• Red and yellow cards were introduced during the 1970 World Cup finals
• More recent major changes include goalkeepers being banned from handling deliberate back passes in 1992
• Tackles from behind becoming red-card penalties in 1998.
💡In Argentina, in the year 2011. Referee Damian Rubino gave out thirty six(36) red cards in a single match between Claypole and Victoriano Arenas. After a scrimmage erupted between the two teams, a fan rushed in the field, landed one sucker punch, and then ran off the field, the players and other people ran after him. Rubino sent off all 22 players and every substitute and some technical staff. These has made Rubino's name register in the refereeing Hall of Fame.
💡Some of the top stadiums in the history of soccer include:-
• Nou Camp in Barcelona, Spain, which remains the biggest soccer stadium in Europe
• The International Stadium Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan, considered to be the most high-technology venue in the world because of its movable roof, huge replay screens, and hundreds of lights to eliminate any hint of shadows on the field
• The plush venue of Louis II in Monte Carlo, Monaco, which is known as one of the most comfortable stadium in the world.
💡The oldest club was formed in 1824 in Edinburgh by John Hope. FIFA did not officially crown the football club with the oldest football club because the club stopped existing after 17 years.
💡A football that dates back to the fifteenth century was found behind a wall in Stirling Castle, Scotland, it has been named as the oldest football in the world.
💡In the 2005 Namibian Cup, KK Palace and Civics came to a full time drew 2-2 and went to penalty kicks, where KK Palace played the first kick. After 48 kicks, the final score in the shootout was 17-16, keeping the record of the highest number of penalty kicks in a single match in the history of soccer till date.
💡An uncovered book titled Vocabula was found by historians who traced football's roots to an extraordinary place in the year 2011, this book seemed to turn soccer's history that soccer started from England, as it was written by an Aberdonian (citizen of Aberdeen in Scotland). It detailed a game in which two teams played with a ball on a field roughly the size of the present pitches, it also made mention of terms such as keeper (goalkeeper), kick off, and switch half(s). This book dated back to the fourteenth century, more than 400 years before the English FA was formed.
💡In the year 2012, Lionel Messi made a record of scoring the most goals in a calendar with the number of 91 goals. He set the Barcelona club record for career goals that year.
💡In the year 2017, Neymar's €222 million transfer fee from Barcelona to PSG made the most expensive player transfer till date.
💡Uruguay was the first country to host that World Cup in the year 1930, that same year Uruguay came the champion of the event.
💡São Paulo goalkeeper, Rogerio Ceni scored 128 goals in his career as a goal keeper, He took a ton of penalties and he scored some free kicks too, making him the goal keeper with the most scored goals.
💡The World Cup has taken place 21 times in 17 different countries since inception to the year 2018.
💡Retired Dutch referee, Bjorn Kuipers is currently the richest referee in the world, with the net worth of $13.5 million. Bjorn earns between $2.2 million and 3.3 million each year of his career.
