Over the weekend, I spent the afternoon with some friends at a club in Caracas called Club Táchira. After spending the day at the pool, we went to grab a bite to eat at the club’s main restaurant, located in a building known as La Concha. It’s an architectural landmark from the mid-1950s, a time when several buildings were constructed in Caracas that today constitute the city’s architectural heritage.

La Concha at Club Tachira was designed by architect Fruto ViVas. And illuminated as it was last Saturday evening, it looked impressive.

The club is located on the slopes of the mountains, so from there you also have a spectacular view of the Caracas valley.

That day, the immense sculpture that is the roof looked to me more than ever like a giant clam. I’d seen it a few times at night, but I don’t think I’d ever seen it lit up so beautifully.

At the top of the structure is a large hall where the club’s parties are usually held, and from there you can also enjoy a wonderful view of the city.

Someone had mentioned to me that the structure needs some maintenance, especially after last June’s earthquake, but at first glance, everything looks pretty good.

And the interesting thing about this place is that from the back, you can’t imagine just how impressive the structure is.

So on Saturday, not only did I have a wonderful afternoon with friends, but I also came away with a few stunning photos of this place.

Thank you for reading.
