”When I first looked back at the Earth, standing on the Moon, I cried.”
-Alan Shepard
It's that time of the week to check on @galenkp suggested topic to write about. And this is my response to this week's Weekend engagement on the topic Want. This time, I have chosen to answer three of the proposed options.
One: When I grow up I want to...
As children we all had ambitions to be and do certain things as adults. Do you remember yours? (I wanted to be a fireman). Tell us about what you wanted to be when you grew up, and why. Did you attain your goal and if not why not? If you managed to achieve your desired result, what did you do to make it happen and how did you stay on track.
The first thing I remember wanting to be in my life was an astronaut. The very little me wanted to go to the moon. Of course, that was just a childhood dream. Although, I remember that along the way, those dreams evolved. And at some point, I wanted to be a pilot. And despite that dream also falling by the wayside. I have always loved traveling by plane. I have never been afraid of flying. And if I had the chance sometime, I would love to learn to fly a plane. Who knows, maybe sometime?
Two: In the next twelve months I want to...
What are your goals over the next twelve months in your off-line life? Do you have set goals, or are they just hopes and dreams. Tell us what the next twelve months holds for you, what you'll achieve and how. Tell us how you'll track your progress and measure your success. [Crypto currency goals and responses are excluded.]
I could say this will be a year of transition for me. In six months, my nest will be empty. My son will move abroad to go to university. Those who read me often already read about this, so I won't dwell on it. But I didn't want to leave this question unanswered. The next six months will be mostly about preparing for my son's move. During this time, I have to do a lot of bureaucratic paperwork if I want to be able to accompany him to settle in his new temporary home. I won't go into many details. But being in Venezuela, what could be simple paperwork is a hassle that requires even to travel abroad to do it. It is one of the big goals that I set myself in this first half of the year, quite challenging and uphill indeed. But who does not try, already lost without having started, right?
And I suppose the last months of the year will be for me to adapt to my new reality. So if everything goes well, I hope to be able to in 12 months have enough time to work on the things below next question.
Five: By the time I'm 60 I want to...
Tell us about three major things you'd like to do or achieve by the time you're 60 years old [or 80 if you're already +60]. They can be as real or far-fetched as you like. Explain why they are on your list and how you plan to go about making them happen.
Wow, I have a little less than a decade left to get there, it may sound like a lot to some and a little to others, but I plan to make the most of that time. I'm not too worried about having too many possessions. That's becoming less and less important to me. But I do love having experiences and being able to afford them. As I said in my first answer, I love to travel. And although, the list of places I would still love to visit and revisit is quite long. There are some on top of the list that I would want to visit in the next few years.
Taken on one of the walking trails within the city of Santiago de Compostela - my own photo
The first is to walk the Camino de Santiago. It's not that I want to do it for religious reasons. I am not very religious at all. But for years, I have wanted to do at least part of the French route of the Camino de Santiago. I have a sister-in-law who lives in Galicia, and we first visited her in 2010. We have had the idea to do it since then. At that time, my son and nephews were too small to do it. But we had agreed on the idea that it would be great to do the route some years later when they were older. We had thought that the next Xacobeo, a Jacobean Year is only celebrated when the festival of Santiago the Apostle (25th July) falls on a Sunday. The city of Santiago in Jacobeo has many celebrations and is much more lively, so we thought it would be a good idea to visit it again and even better after having done part of the Camino. But the next Xacobeo after 2010 was last year (2021), in the middle of the pandemic. Needless to say, we had neither the plans nor the resources to do it.
But I hope to be able to do it soon. The next Xacobeo is in 2027, but this time I don't want to wait until then. As soon as my husband gets over some health issues and can exercise again, we have agreed that we will start training. And that sounds like a plan I would love to achieve. I hope I don't have too many ailments in the next few years. But it's a trip that the sooner we do it, the better. Although, we intend to do it taking as much time as we need and skipping the more physic demanding parts of the route.
The second destiny at the top of my list of places I would like to visit before I turn 60 is Machu Picchu. One of the places in Latin America that I have always wanted to visit. It is expensive and not easy to get to. And the more time passes, the more reluctant the husband becomes to go. He thinks that the altitude of the place might affect him. So we will see how we can manage to visit it soon.
And third place has been on my list for many years. It's a debt I owe myself because I missed the only chance I had to go when I was younger. But it's not worth talking about the reasons why I missed that chance. I want to visit the Gran Sabana in the Amazon of my country and to contemplate some time in real life the Tepuys.
This went on longer than I thought, so I'll leave it here. Thank you very much for reading and until next time.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading.
