Yesterday, I was with my husband running some errands in La Carlota. An area of the city that I have already mentioned on another occasion. Where in the '50s, many emigrants from Italy settled. Although it's still partly residential, there are now many commercial establishments, but maybe none with as much history as Vomero Cafe.
While we were passing by the cafe, I recalled 
As my husband defined it, the Vomero is still a neighborhood cafe.
It is the meeting place for people of the neighborhood to have a coffee and chat. And it has been there for more than 50 years.
The Café was founded by the Italian Giovanni Misciagna in 1959. He was in charge of it for more than 30 years.
And now the place is in the hands of the following generations. One of his sons and his grandaughter are in charge of the cafe.
It seems that much of the family has continued the tradition of making coffee. Another of Giovanni's sons established another emblematic coffee shop in the city many years ago, Caffé Piú, which I talked about some time ago here.
Vomero is a simple place. It is small, just the bar where they prepare the coffee and a bar attached to the wall with chairs where you can sit and chat while you enjoy your coffee.
You can read about the history of the place in the many newspaper clippings that adorn the walls of the small premises. They also feature news about the Family and their tradition with coffee.
And there are also many photographs on the walls.
We ordered a couple of cappuccinos. Their cappuccino is served sprinkled with a pinch of cinnamon and cocoa.
My sweet tooth made us order a piece of carrot cake to share.
The coffee was delicious. Not one of those creamy, silky cappuccinos that are so fashionable, but rather frothy like the Italian coffee of a lifetime.
You don't come to this cafe thinking of those trendy coffee shops with fancy equipment. Nor is it a place to come to read a book because it is tiny. But it's the place for a good chat with coffee if you are in the area, and where many locals to the neighborhood go to have their morning coffee.
Do they serve the best cappuccino in the damn world? I wouldn't dare to make that statement. There are many places I can think of when I think of a good cappuccino. But what is definite is that in this place you can have one of the cappuccinos with more tradition and history of this city.
