There is a joke that says responsibility wants to kill responsible people and irresponsible people do not know what God did for them.
In Africa, once you get to a certain age everybody expects you to take up a responsibility, whether you are ready or not nobody cares. So if a child starts bringing money into the home, most families don't care how the child comes up with it, they are all after the money.
Growing up was tough and I kept having this hope that things would get better with time but at times I just wanted to give up. Who did I want to drop the responsibility for? So at an early age, I took up the responsibility of buying textbooks for myself. While my parents pay for my school fees and other needs. Although I just wanted to contribute as things were tough for my family. One thing I liked about my Mom was she always wanted to know how I made everything I brought to the house and you had to convince her or hell would be let loose that day.

I let her know that I was selling oranges in front of the house after school because most times before she was back from her business, I could have resumed house chores. At first, they wanted me to concentrate on my study but as Bokoharam bombed my father's business, all hands had to be on deck.
So as a filial daughter, I decided to assist my parents by continuing with my small business but then it started looking like a mistake to me now. After secondary school, I learned some hand work and I used it to train myself in high institutions plus my thrift business just so I could ease my parent's burden.

Sometimes when I come back from school, I will assist in buying foodstuff in the house on my own. Na wetin makes them say make person no start wetin him no go fit finish. Suddenly they left the responsibility of providing foodstuff for me. So whenever am home I will buy foodstuff. After school I went for service, and my responsibility increased, ha God who did I offend? I have to send home money for Mumsy to boost her business.
Now my brother got admitted into a high institution while I was serving I need to assist in his training. I was frustrated but I still need to help out. It's just as if one grows up in life that's how responsibility keeps popping up as if it has already been assigned and is waiting for you to grow and take it, whether you are ready or not ready for it. Anyway, I didn't take up that responsibility for too long as my brother picked up a part-time job and later went into tech, so one burden was taken off my shoulder.

Just as I was about to thank God for the relief, another responsibility fell on me as soon as I finished service. This I wish to take off my shoulder fast but it doesn't look like it will fall off anytime. When I think about that house rent, make una hold me my body dey shake. Foodstuff and House rent, this is just too much and I don't know what to do at this point, House rent is expensive and the foodstuffs are expensive too. My business and work are not enough to help. I have tried other businesses because of the feeding, but they closed, I tried snack and cooked food (mamaput) credit and family feeding from it and it closed too. Try teaching but we all know teaching doesn't pay well in Nigeria.
I so wish someone would help me out and lift the burden. So the responsibility I wish to drop is foodstuff, walahi that one is draining my blood. House rent as soon as you pay, e don finish, you rest.
We move, on God
