As a Nigerian guy I am, there are a whole lot of activities that one constantly engage in. Some we find them enjoyable and some even though they are not enjoyable but are just done to occupy time. There are times life offer to us another rollercoaster which we might not even predict. There are seasons in our lives that we stop doing something's that we usually do before. Sometimes it is not that we did not actually like the activity again but sometimes the time to carry out the activity is not just there any longer as before.
Using my own case as an example, growing up, I usually enjoyed visiting the village, I mean my home village. It is always our family tradition that we usually practice when I was growing up. No matter the Christmas celebration, you will find us at the village by December.
For me personally, when I was much younger, it was always a joy for me when we are going to the village. In fact I will say it is one of the special moments for me and my family. It is always a time of adventure and beyond a time of celebration and to visit people for the Christmas period. The trip is always adventurous for us because we usually travelled by road which always involves lots of hours.
There is always this sense of atmosphere of family that the village always gives us which is not so in the city. Everything just look so fresh and organic. The air, the food and everything always looks fresh and a time to connect with other children and play around. A time for visitations to different families and many more. It is always a time of quality memories for us growing up.
But as life will have it, we constantly keep growing and evolving. There will be a stage one will get, those things that you usually do before, you will no longer have time to do them any longer and I guess that is just the stage I got to. There were a lot of engagement like school, my working place and other activities that didn't afford me the time to even visit the village any longer.
If I should do the calculation effectively, I will say it has been close to more than 10 years I have been to the village. Even though those reasons of school, work and other engagement contribute to it, I also discovered that one of the reason is because of the high level of insecurity in the country. In recent news, I have heard about cases of kidnapping, and many more along the road that leads to our village which also is a strong factor that discouraged me from going.
If you will ask me, I will say I really missed going to the village and I am still looking forward to the day I will have the time to. Of course I am looking forward to visiting the village in the next couple of years to come.
