I thought I was being really clever.

With my post pay out set to 50% HBD and 50% HP from Day 1 on Hive, I was happy to try something new this month and start regularly moving my HBD down to Savings to earn that enticing looking 12%.

I thought I only needed 3 (or 3.5) days to move it from Savings all the way up, in one go, through to Liquid HIVE. I allowed 4. Little did I realise that when I hit "withdraw" on my Savings that it would go back up to HBD and not to Liquid HIVE.

So this morning, on 1st Feb in Australia, only hours before we hit the 1st in UTC time I realised my mistake.

I saw a relative bounty of gorgeous "cash" sitting in HBD and a very lonely 3.301 HIVE sitting in its liquid position from some awesome contest, run by some awesome person that I won at some point in the last month of dedicated, regular posting.

Ho hum.

I think to myself, "I guess I'll power up 3.301, even though it doesn't qualify me for much of anything. Oh well, I guess I learned something and that's the main reason I do HPUD anyway, right, to learn things?"

Man, I hate it when I make mistakes.

But then I'm reminded of a podcast episode with Andrew Huberman, a professor from Stanford University and an expert in Neurobiology (and other things), who said something like this:

"The ideal amount of times to fail at something is about 15% of the time. The reason for this is that when we fail at something--that we care about learning--it is sufficiently frustrating that our brain pays more attention and we become better at learning the thing we're trying to learn how to do."

Thanks Andrew. That makes me feel slightly better.

All of this thinking happens while my Mister is at work. I make peace with what is and I move onto other tasks, like building out my next course on Udemy. I've mostly forgotten about HPUD until he gets home, then suddenly, just like that, he solves the problem by telling me he's got spare "cash" in his Liquid Hive and he's going to send me some.

How much do I want?

Part of me is annoyed that he's just solving my problem for me and not letting me sit with the consequences of my mistake.

Part of me is delighted that the problem can be solved so easily and I now get to participate, the way I wanted, in Hive Power Up day.

And part of me is laughing at the fact that I have parts of myself that are, essentially, arguing with each other.

So, next month (apart from paying the Mister back for the 15.000 HIVE he sent my way!) I'll have to do it a bit differently methinks. I'd love to hear other people's strategies for managing their HIVE. Want to share in the comments what you do if you feel like it's working well for you? 馃憞
