Look out! The photos are starting to back up!

Each January I create a new folder for all the coming year's photos and then copy the previous year's photos to one of my portable hard drives.

Don't know how many photos y'all normally take in a year but I usually end up with a few hundred gigabytes worth of photos, PSDs, and JPEGs to transfer.

Takes a minute...

When it's finally done, will I be able to relax knowing that my photos are backed up?

Nope.

Still too centralized. One fire/tornado/burglar and there goes years of photos.

Up until now I've avoided using cloud storage because of the hassle of uploading everything and the cost. Think I've reached the point now where the cost of not doing so is even greater. >insert neo-Luddite grumbling here<

So how do y'all back up your photos/important files? Any recommendations or warnings about cloud storage? What do you film nerds do to backup your photos?




Photos are all from 2021, first two are from protests marking the one year anniversary of Breonna Taylor's death. Third photo is from Kentucky State Fair. Fourth and fifth photos are from protests on the one year anniversary of the Kentucky AG's decision not to charge the cops who shot Taylor. Final photo is the Louisville skyline from the Big Four bridge on the Ohio River.
