Obedience is better than sacrifice and it is something that God expect us to do to show that we truly honor and respect him. The word of God is filled with many instructions, principles and commands that God wants us to obey so we may find good success.
The scripture below tells a story about how the Jordan stoopeed flowing and Joshua and the children of Isreal crossed the Jordan. From the story we also see God gave them specific instructions concerning their mission to conquering and overcoming the city of Jericho.
God told them to consecrate themselves, when to move as soon they see priests moving with the Ark, The distance to keep, where to stand and where they were not suppose to reach. The instructions God gave them was to lead them to success in their quest to overcoming Jericho and also reaching their promise land.
And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host; And they commanded the people, saying, When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then you shall set out from your place, and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that you may know the way by which you must go: for you have not passed this way before. And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you. And Joshua spoke unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people. And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. And you shall command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When you are come to the edge of the water of Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan. And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God. And Joshua said, By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites. Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth passes over before you into the Jordan. Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man. And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in a heap. And it came to pass, when the people set out from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people; And as they that bore the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water, (for Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest,) That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far at the city Adam, that is beside Zarethan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right opposite Jericho. And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed completely over Jordan. Joshua 3:1-17
The rest of the story we saw how Joshua and the children of Isreal became victorious prevailing oevr their enemies. They had good success from all the times that they remained obedient to God but lost battles to their enemies the moment they disobeyed God.
God always see us through the struggles of life when we remain obedient to His instructions. He will leave us if lean on our own understanding and choose our own way.
The things God may tell us to do may not all that be simple but we've got to do it anyway for His will is always perfect and His ways better than our ways.
Jesus could have chosen to live for Himself and not die on the cross but then he thought of God's will to be more important than His. That is why He humbled himself and obeyed. Life will always be better if we will choose oeby God and go according to His ways.
