Nothing keeps you more honest then 50 degrees of scorching heat and the sun from above. 11 Liters of water and no toilet breaks for about 28 hours were the result of my little adventure to Sossusvlei in Namibia.
An early morning sunrise over the desert is special. The way the dunes move in the wind, the constant blowing sand. The sheer height of the dunes. Some rising up to 150 meters. Countless sandcorns.
After a sandstorm hit Sossusvlei in mid morning I nearly decided to head back to camp. But luckily I stuck around and waited.
Once midday hit, the sky had cleared up and so did all parking spots as most sensible humans looked for shade. Well, I didn´t and decided to walk into Deadvlie, probably so most photographed bassin in the area. A soaked t-shirt was my cover against the elements and as I soon found out, the sun is a pretty dryer. The t-shirt was completely dry after about 10mins :)
Although the sun was scorching hot, I spent 2 of the most amazing hours on those dunes. No one in sight just me and these inforgiving dunes. At the end of the day, I had probably been the dumbest yet happiest person I could that day. Some great memories and special photos (certainly for myself) resulted.
So as the sun went down, there was nothing left to do then to fall asleep like a dehydrated little plum...
