The sun was beginning to beat down; it was nearly 10:00 AM. Along the banks of the Cunda River; oyster hunter could be seen wading in the water, hunting for their catch. The river—which separates the downtown from the main island of Sumatra—is known for its abundant oyster beds.
Every day, these gatherers carry out their work here as the tide recedes, often spending hours at the task. I can hardly imagine the heat they endure under the scorching sun; even I, having spent just one hour documenting their activities, felt incredibly dehydrated.
For them, oysters serve as a daily source of income. Once harvested, the oysters are shucked, and only the meat is sold—fetching a price of IDR 100,000 to 125,000 rupiah per kilogram. I tried to capture some photos of them at work.
In this Monomad Challenge contest, I want to invite my friends to see some of Black and White photos caught by my camera; "Oyster Hunter.", the pictures presented to my friends in Black and white Community 😉
