My oldest son helped me put together my new rolling tool chest today. He and his younger brother got it for me a while back and it's been sitting in the box ever since. Life kept getting in the way, or I let it.
We finally cracked it open and got to work. Actually, he got to work, I just kind of watched and helped hand him tools to assemble it. He didn't just help with the assembly either. He started moving my tools from the old chest and toolbox into the new one without being asked. Just saw what needed to happen and did it.
Of course he didn't put things exactly here I would have, but thats okay, it is the thought that counts and I will take it. It can always be rearranged later. Besides there is a lot more work to do with regards to getting tools transferred.
Now we need to straighten up the garage and figure out where this thing is going to live. The old tool chest doesn't work anymore, the drawers stick and rails are broken, so it's time to let it go. Making space for the new by getting rid of what's broken. There's probably a metaphor in there somewhere but I'm not going to force it.
We have a scrap metal collector in our area, so I will probably give them a call to come pick up this old one. That way it can get scrapped and hopedully recycled.
As you can see below, it was modified. The actual old chest is the red one. The wheels on it had broken and I made a cart for it years ago and sat it on with my air compressor and welder.
Anyway, today will be continuing to cleanup the area, which as you can see needs it. All in all, it was a good day with good help.
Good to finally check this one off the list.
Thanks for reading,
Joe
