This is another little silver coin I won through auction on eBay. It is my first and only Capped Bust half dollar to date. I do have a bid in for another right now and have a good chance of winning it. Then one I am currently bidding on is in better condition and is an 1832.
OBVERSE
The obverse displays what is supposed to be the bust of Liberty designed by engraver John Reich. Some of what I read said that Reich may have actually used a mistress as a model for the bust of Liberty on this coin and the other series of Capped Bust coins that ranged from five cents to this fifty-cent piece.
The Liberty is wearing a symbol of the American Revolution, which is the Phrygian which was also known as the Freedom Cap. There are thirteen total star representing the original states of the U.S. The headband on Liberty is inscribed with LIBERTY. This is something I look for on these Capped Bust coin types when buying them. If I am unable to read LIBERTY on the headband, I typically will not purchase them. The date is directly under the bust of Liberty.
REVERSE
The reverse displays a bald eagle that has an olive branch and a bundle of three arrows cluched in its talons. OUT OF MANY, ONE in in the Latin language appears on a scroll above the eagle. The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA nearly surrounds the entirety of the coin on the outer edge. Centered directly below the eagle is the denomination. In this case 50 C.
