It might seem funny teaching about winter wonderland in Florida where there is no snow.
You can talk about the differents in the tempetures, the different clothes they wear. We can talk and see pictures of different animals in the winter like snow owls and polar bears.
But when it comes to snow it is harder to explain and teach about. Most of these children have never seen or experience snow. So we have to think out of the box when it comes to snow.
Sensory Ideas
Making play snow that actually is cold to the touch is a easier than you would think.
Play Snow
1 can of shaving cream
1 box of baking soda
Mix these together in a bowl and you have a cold to the touch fake snow
Sparkling Snow
2 cups of salt
salt
Iridescent glitter
Then tring to paint things that are snow related. If you think it is easy think again these children have never seen thing in their lives that had snow on them and it can be interesting to see what they come up with.
First we make snow paint. Yes, children love making things to eat and use. Hint children can get flour ever where.
Snow Paint
1 cup salt
1 cup flour
1 cup water
Mix these ingredents together in a bowl and you have a paint for the children to use and it doubles as a food experience.
Like I said my children have never experienced snow and this is as close as I can get without using real snow. But they are enjoying what they have been doing so far
