As I was going down to the laundry room at my apartment complex I saw a hungry person looking at my vegetable plants.
I think I scared him when I came out of my apartment. So I started talking to him. He commented how nice my vegetables looked and I told him thank you. I heard his stomach growl. I asked him if he was hungry and he told me he lost his job and home a couple of months ago. I told him to wait on the patio and I would be right back. I asked if he was allergic to any foods.
So I went in to my kitchen and made him a couple of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and grabbed 4 granola bars and a couple of bottles of water. By the time I got back he was still there. He ate the sandwiches and drank a bottle of water. The granola bars and the other bottle of water he put in his backpack for later. I explained to him that I don't have a lot, but I am happy to help him out this one time. He asked if I had any chores he could do to pay for the food. I told him no and there was no need to pay me back.
We talked about him tring to get in a cold weather shelter since it has been so cold lately. He also said he was going see if he can get some help somewhere.
