So I have not posted anything for a while. (because I got abducted by naked space guppies... maybe not.. I get some weird dreams when I don't have enough coffee...)
We have been focused on getting some inside projects done lately. Sealed up some windows, gutted and reinstalled a few walls... oh and some drywall here and there. My primary goal is to get my oldest son's bedroom done. That entails a remodeling of the new living room at the same time as well. And in the middle of all that, @tillysfamilyfarm ( aka Mrs to this here
@coffeedrinker112) tossed in a baby-whopper of a "hey dum dum, do this for me cuz you wuuuuuuuuv me -project. (but not one of those "impossible" whoppers... we aint vegans here! we are omnivores after all. And yes, bunnies -cute, cuddly, taste good in bbq sauce. So does Bambi. And his parents.....
Ahem.... tangents.....
Anywhoo, She who must be obeyed, asked/pestered me into carving up the floor between the addition and the old house. It was on my list of things... just not planned for at the time. So I departed from my efforts in the living room and rounded up my arsenal of floor-destroying toys... Uh, tools. Flooring tools.
Who am I kidding... I fired up the skill saw; setting it to a shallow depth and ATTACKED the floor.
Round one went to me and the saw. Whoohoo!
Floor: 0
Me: 1
Round two... not so well. The original sub-floor is a 4cm thick buffalo board. (1.25" thick for those of us who don't use metric forces.. er .. numbers) Some of it had rotted out -hence the need to replace a bit of it. Duh. Well, after a few minutes of demo work I lost my hammer though the floor. I managed to collect it, but that should have been the caution flag. I mean really.. a guy with a hammer. WHAT could POSSIBLY go wrong?? *sure, que up the music, it's coming...
The score is now at
Floor: 1
Me: 1 (I hate ties....)
I figured I needed a BFH with a longer handle. I have a 20# sledge... Perfect persuasion device... er, precision flooring removal tool.
Round 3.... and the floor EATS my sledge, and goes for my left pointer finger as a "thank you" snack.
Floor: 2
Me: 1 (yep, I'm wriggling in pain and loss.... no, really.. the gummy finger is making me want to cry..... BLEEEEEEEEP words)
Tilly was helping me with the demo, and she cringed when she heard/saw it; compound fracture/break. Just before, and just after the 2nd knuckle on the finger. The thing looked like a super chubby skin-colored twist tie. And then it promptly turned into a purple-grey bratt, with a finger nail on the one end, and a wrist somewhere on the other end.
-Anyone got some ketchup and mustard????
But the floor wasn't done.... yet. (oh gaaawd, the pain.. make. it. stop!)
Round 4
@tillysfamilyfarm relieves me from hammer duty and we get the old flooring punched out and ready for the new plywood to go down.
Floor: 2
Tilly: 1 (combined with my #s.. 2)
Round 5
Floor: 2
Us: 3 (winner winners, chicken dinners??)
The new plywood was laid down, and a scrappy old garage rug/mat put down. Flooring (for now) is done! And she who must be obeyed was smiling. (aaand shaking her head at me about the finger... pop-stick and all....heh)
That was a couple days ago. She came home with a real finger splint for me. (awwwe, signs that your Mrs. loves you.... <3 )
And of course, the new floor with it's ugly rug over it:
