"The Liking Gap," is a term to describe people's underestimate of how others like them on first impressions. A new study in the Association for Psychological Science is titled, "The Liking Gap in Conversations: Do People Like Us More Than We Think?"

While people usually overestimate the amount they contribute to household chores, people often are not accurate when estimating other's opinions of ourselves upon meeting for the first time. This research explains this phenomenon as the "Liking Gap."

I discuss my thoughts on this and why I would name it "First Impression Illusion," as part of my ongoing series, Big Idea Wednesday, where I identify a psychological phenomenon unknown to most people.
