One thing I would love to see in Holozing is a story where the protagonist is not the only character capable of changing the world. It is easy to imagine a main character discovering the truth about the creatures, exploring forgotten places and challenging the people responsible for hiding the past. But a journey like that becomes much more interesting when other characters have their own reasons for getting involved.
And what if some of them know much more than they initially reveal?
I think supporting characters could become one of the strongest elements of Holozing's narrative, especially if each of them represents a different way of understanding the world. Not everyone would agree with the protagonist, and not everyone would consider uncovering the truth a good idea.
Imagine a researcher who has spent years studying holographic creatures. At first, this person could appear to be an ordinary scientific contact, someone who provides information about creature abilities, genetic records and unusual energy readings. However, after several missions together, the protagonist begins noticing that the researcher avoids certain questions.
Perhaps this character once participated in an experiment that contributed to the disappearance of the original creatures. Maybe they were too young to understand what was happening, or perhaps they genuinely believed their work would save endangered species. Whatever the explanation, their knowledge could become essential to understanding the past.
But I would not make this character a simple source of exposition. Their real conflict should come from deciding whether to confess what they know, even if doing so destroys their reputation or puts other people at risk.
Then there could be another kind of companion: someone who distrusts technology completely.
While scientists see holograms as extraordinary achievements, this character might believe that humanity has become too dependent on artificial recreations. They could have grown up near an abandoned settlement where stories about living creatures were passed down through generations.
To them, the protagonist's investigation is not merely an exciting adventure. It is an opportunity to recover something that their community lost long ago.
This difference in perspective could create some excellent conversations. One character searches for scientific proof, while the other trusts traditions and observations that official records have ignored. Neither needs to be completely right or wrong. In fact, the truth might only emerge when they learn to combine their knowledge.
I would also introduce someone who initially works against the protagonist.
Perhaps a member of the organization responsible for controlling creature technology is assigned to monitor the investigation. This person could genuinely believe that revealing the past would cause panic, destabilize society and destroy the only system keeping dangerous forces under control.
Instead of becoming an obvious villain, they might gradually discover that the organization they defend has concealed information even from its own employees.
That would create an interesting turning point. Would they betray their superiors to help the protagonist, or continue defending a system they no longer fully trust?
From a gameplay perspective, these characters could influence missions, unlock different areas and provide alternative approaches to difficult situations. A scientist might help interpret corrupted data, while a companion familiar with ancient traditions could recognize symbols that technology cannot explain.
Their relationships could also change depending on the player's decisions, making the journey feel more personal.
these are speculative ideas for Holozing's fan-lore, not confirmed features or characters.
Still, I believe the most memorable supporting characters are not those who simply help the hero become stronger. They are the ones who challenge the hero's assumptions and sometimes force them to reconsider what they are fighting for.
