Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate some sandcastle fun, despite being winter!
Winter Sandcastles
If there's one thing that the little man and I enjoy doing together, it's building some type of sandcastle! When we had a recent spat of really beautiful weather, we spent quite a bit of time at the beach which was great. What that allowed us to do was get some sunlight which we desperately needed, but it also gave the little man a shot to do one of his favorite things once we were done finding critters: digging in the sand for sand castles!
I think if we had a real yard, the little man would be satisfied almost every day doing some type of outdoor thing like digging holes, filling them back in, building LEGO around them and all that fun stuff that I think little boys should be spending their time doing. He was stoked and kind of upset when he had to stop since we were leaving, digging his holes!
We also have been bringing some nice LEGO everywhere we go. It's a good thing that the kid has an endless supply of the stuff lol because some pieces end up getting broken, left behind or lost but his favorites by far are his boats! He brings these things everywhere and builds and breaks them down when we are in the car so it was advantageous that he brought them to the beach to do some driving around in the faux-lake we built here.
It was good to help him build the thing but it was also good to sit back and relax for a little bit, even a few moments, and soak up the glory that is watching him have fun hanging out on the sand with his boat, vrooming around to his little hearts content and just enjoying being a kid. I know it's likely not the right medium for that sentimental stuff but I am trying to make sure the little dude has the best childhood he can have because he deserves it, and not in a pretentious way of privilege but I think all children should have this special, stress and care-free relationship to their world so they can develop properly and into who they are meant to be.
Apart from the deep philosophical shit, we also found a giant ass lobster claw! Lol. It was pretty cool so we kept it with us while we were having fun building sand castles. My wife didn't appreciate it very much since it looks like it was full of rotten lobster meat, which wasn't surprising considering there are a number of seafood restaurants around and people likely buy some and then sit on the beach to eat it. I don't know who would be crazy enough to waste such a big claw though! At any rate though, it came in handy to make for an interesting decoration for our castle wall lol
With the weather being very comfortable but not that comfortable to be building sand castles all day, we were able to build up a decent little wall for a while before it got too cold to stay out there. It felt great to sit on the beach in December and play in the sand though! We had another purpose which worked out well, for why we went to the beach!
With some of the challenges that my wife has been having with parts of her health lately, we've been doing many different things to try and get her to feel better and not just in the physical side of it, also for the other important part that is her mental state.
The beach is her happy place! Lol she needed a mental break and some crisp, fresh salty ocean air and that certainly helped her in a few ways. The other thing we were doing, her and I, was the technique called "grounding" where you walk barefoot on the raw earth somewhere. With it being winter, that's not always very possible where we are for a few reasons, one of them being there is so much fucking salt everywhere it's nasty, and it's industrial salt too so that's even worse. Don't want to be getting that crap on your skin! Where we live too there are numerous people with dogs and some of them don't pick up the dog shit so that was another big no for us to go walk where we live.
So off to the beach we were headed, for several great reasons! Grounding was good, it was actually a bit of a double benefit for me because I got a little cryo therapy in there too lol my feet were so cold that for the next 4 hours or so, they still had a decreasing chill to them! That was good! Now we need to get back there for a little more grounding and cryo therapy!
