I think that this is one of the ways in which humans, a hundred thousand years ago or so, got blasted back to the stone age for a while. They made things incessantly complicated and stupid, so that nobody knew how to do anything anymore. Then eventually they got rid of a bunch of the people that could hobble it together and it fell apart. I suspect we are heading to a similar fate..
