As repercussion for some of the massive student protests against gun violence, school administrators in several southern states have decided to physically abuse and paddle students. 19 states specifically allow a teacher, or principal or other designated school staffer to punish students via physical force. Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Louisiana, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Wyoming all permit physical punishment as a technique to maintain discipline in the public schools.
