I happened upon a post by @richardcrill the other evening titled Steemit Fitness Challenge. I read his post and then went to the Mother post by
@illestbambi. The "Everyone Wins SBD" drew my attention, but more than that, I think I need a good challenge to get fit.
I have been significantly overweight my entire adult life, minus one year about 11 years ago when my mom and I went to The Diet Center. My oldest daughter will be 19 next month. My weight issues started when I was pregnant with her. To save you from all the details, I have had four children. All of them were delivered c-section. My abdominal muscles have been sliced up and down and left to right a few different times. The view isn't pretty. Skip ahead. My favorite thing to do when the children were babies was sit and rock them. Morning, noon, night. Rock, rock, rock. I got very comfortable. I gained weight. The year I did lose weight was wonderful. Billy Blanks was my best friend. I did Tae-Bo every morning.
That pregnancy I only gained about 20 pounds, but the weight stayed on. Now that baby is three years old, and I've gained more. Not the highest point ever, but still too high. My knees really bother me. I have suffered (and am currently suffering )with plantar fasciitis three times. I shop in the plus size section. I'm used to it.
Back in March, a sister in law of mine told me about a diet she was trying. She has also been overweight most of her adult life. This diet was different. She'd been flirting with the diet since about December, and had lost about 20 pounds without any exercise. My ears perked up. I started researching the Ketogenic diet (no sugars, no grains, no legumes, very limited vegetables and fruits, lots of good fats) and started it myself March 29, 2017. I've lost 28 pounds so far. I have not been doing any exercise regularly. @goatgarden did make me a kettle bell from pipes and weights, but I don't use it regularly because doing so aggravates my right foot. The last two weeks I have not lost any weight at all. I've hit a plateau. I've been researching what to do to get over the hump, and then came across this challenge. It can't hurt (I hope!). Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong on that note.
My plan for this challenge is to get up and move! We live 45 minutes away from a gym, so that's out the window. I've got some home workouts I found on Pinterest, I have my kettle bell, and I love to go for walks when my foot allows. @goatgarden was gone all weekend, but tomorrow evening I want to get his input for a better plan of action. I'd also gladly take input from you as well!!
I don't wear shorts in public, so I am really branching out here with my before pictures and video of today.
Here we go! My official "Before" photos, taken by @goatgarden.
And here is today's workout. I'm grateful, as I'm sure you'll be too, @goatgarden messed with it and made it about a minute and a half long, so you don't have to suffer through it with me!!!
My workout consisted of:
20 squats, 15 second plank, 25 crunches (I did 8), 35 jumping jacks, 15 lunges, 25 second wall sit--the wall was off camera, sorry!), 10 sit ups, 10 butt kicks, and 6 push ups.
What do I hope to achieve during this challenge?
I want to lose more fat and gain more muscle. I want to look and feel better. I hope to get into a routine and stick with it even after the challenge is over. I do well when I have to be accountable to someone, so I am wanting accountability!
Do we have to post food?? I saw a couple people do that today, but I don't think it was a requirement. Here's mine just in case.
Breakfast: fried egg, bacon, salad, 1/8 cup blueberries, bullet proof coffee
Lunch: salad with ground beef and cheese, iced green tea
Snack: almonds
Supper: steak, sauteed cabbage, onion, and mushrooms, iced green tea
water throughout the day
@illestbambi, Thank you for the encouraging words when I showed a little interest in this challenge. An attitude like that makes all the difference! Good luck to all the challengers!!
