I did it!

Yes! I went, opened my mouth and sang at the top of my lungs.
I participated in the Casting of "La Voz" Argentina.

If you have been following my last few stories, you will know how hard it was to get this check I needed on my bucket list. For me, honestly, it has been hard to find myself in my new life. And you may say, this "chama" (girl, young lady, girl) is annoying with that. But it is my reality, and if there is something I have learned from being a depressive person who needs constant control of her emotions in order not to go into crisis, is that accepting a problem is the beginning of its solution. I accept that my life has changed, I accept that I don't know what to do yet, I don't know what's next, I know I have a great team and the team always wins!

As I had told you, a few weeks ago a friend of mine sent me the post about the casting call for La Voz Argentina. It said that the audition would take place on February 07, 08, 09 at the Buenos Aires Convention Center. For me this was a challenge. I have, or rather, I had some years without singing even in the bathroom. Only the set list to lull Elizabeth to sleep because she doesn't fall asleep anymore. But I decided to do it and if there is something I cannot allow is to let myself be overcome by fear.

It went like this:
On Saturday I got confirmation that the day I requested at my job to attend would be Monday. I had a good laugh when my colleague and manager of the place told me with great sorrow that my boss had sent me to tell me that the day I asked not .... ( Here I was already lighting up in €-@-#-#/@ ) they would not pay me. Ha ha ha ha. Did they also think I wouldn't get it? Well, I did. So I said: well, that's it. Sunday I get my hair done, my nails done, find some clothes for the occasion, rehearse a little bit and get up early. At that point I still had no idea what I would sing. I spent the last few weeks going over my repertoire while I was taking a bath and my record was falling short. But I already had a couple of songs that I signed up for, it was those or nothing. I was really worried all week but the nerves didn't come until this same colleague asked me, "Cley, aren't you nervous? At that moment my stomach turned.

So Sunday arrived and my sister, who always supports me in everything, came home and told me that our dear friend denysmusic@denysmusic let us stay at his house to make it easier to get to the place. I live in the province and the event was obviously in the city. That made my day shorter and the night longer but it was my best option. Denys would help me rehearse and I could sleep a couple of extra hours. The day was very eventful, I had to leave unexpectedly to solve a small problem (this is a topic for my next post so stay tuned) and I had no time to do anything so more than nerves I was stressed.

My sister and I made it on the last train to the capital. We traveled through the 7 stations and my belly was getting more and more tight. When we arrived, we took one of those black and yellow cabs with a meter and luckily it was quite close to the apartment and charged very little because we didn't have any cash either. When we arrived, I turned on the iron and started to straighten my hair. If there is something that characterizes me, I don't know if it's good or bad, is that I can't show up for anything if I don't get dressed up first. Being presentable for singing is like my protective shield, and you may think: of course you have to be presentable to present yourself. But I sometimes exaggerate. I need to feel ... Transformed? I don't know, I feel safe like this. Don't think I made much of a change, I just straightened my hair and put a gloss on my nails. But it made me feel empowered.

The night went slowly. Denys recorded a few tunes on his violin, Gabriela wrote and chatted with Derly and I was cringing with every second. Later, I sang a little and we decided what song I would bring. I have news for you, I recorded it to show you soon so wait for it. Then, betting on the heart of the cards, there was nothing left but to wait for the time to go to the casting.

Monday morning we got up early. It was a bit chilly because Buenos Aires is going through a strange autumnal summer that has me happy. So, I pulled up a pair of jeans over my biker, zipped up a sweater. On the spot I would change my wardrobe in the best style of a good choralist (it's an art to know how to change clothes in public); sunscreen, eyeliner, come on. The meeting was scheduled from 10 am to 6 pm. We arrived at the place at 9am and we already had about 4000, yes four thousand people in front of us and behind us there were about a thousand (1000) more. A lot of people chasing their dreams there. I got to see all kinds of people, of all ages, sexes, tastes and colors and they all looked just like me at that moment. They were all looking to taste the flavor of their dream in their mouth. The dream of being heard.

The line went smoothly, everyone singing for long hours enjoying their moment; they were young and happy, but too many. They entered the center 50 by 50. So we went step by step under an inclement sun and the occasional kind cloud that landed to give us encouragement. The line was so long that it seemed like the game of "culebrita", the snake that was eating and with each point became longer until it took up the entire screen of your cell phone and your only goal was not to touch its tail. That's how we were there. We were given the precious numbers and forms to fill out. I was participant number 6457 and my sister was 6456. What a number.

The last box of the forms we had to fill out said: Tell us part of your story or something you want to share with us. I wrote:

- Almost 5 years ago I left my country in search of my dreams and goals; all that changed when I became a mom. I am looking for the opportunity to prove to myself that I can still do it all. Yes, everything!

I did. I can. It was a super experience even though it lasted only one day. Apparently they "already have specifically defined what they are looking for" that's what other participants were saying over there. I guess I didn't qualify in their specific search. But it filled my heart to do well. Forcing myself out of my comfort zone and enjoying a different and risky experience.

I can tell you how it went: with our group of 50 people we entered a room, then another room where there were two producers of the event. They explained to us the dynamics of how we were going to sing, one and another and another. They decided the time or if they asked for another one. When it was my turn, I walked as steadily as my injured knee would allow me to walk, I landed on the mark on the floor and said: good afternoon; and I sang. Adrenaline ran through every inch of my body and I felt like screaming but I had to restrain myself, I had my sister's voice in my head saying: "you have to manage yourself" it's like a fire that I feel inside that wants to come out but I have to regulate its flame so it doesn't burn anything, or me. In that instant I felt like me again. At the end I gave a minimal nod of thanks and walked to my chair again. There I listened patiently to the rest and we were ushered out of the room. From my group of 50 they called only four participants with whom they wanted to "clarify" doubts (it was obvious to me that they were the ones selected). To the rest a simple "thank you for coming". Thus concluded my experience in that space, a space that I enjoyed from the first moment in line. But shall I tell you what I gained? I gained peace with myself for having gone, for having listened to myself. I understood that I must listen to myself.

Tengo a mi equipo, mi familia. Tengo a Leal.

The most important thing is that I know I have a great support network. I have my team, my family. I have my friends who even in the distance are happy with me every step of the way. I have my group of moms who support me, I have my sister. I have Leal. And I have you who read me and now accompany me too, so thank you.

I just hope the next experiences don't include 8 hour lines. Ha ha ha ha. I'm getting too old for that.
I'll say goodbye for today, Cleyna in the voice.
