November 1st is right around the week!!! And the time has come to for NaNoWriMo.
It is a way to encourage writers to sit down and word. Because honestly, so many folks say they want to write a book, but never just sit down to do it.
They talk about it at a party or write some notes during a meeting. But so many folks don’t honestly know what it takes to write a book.
The goal is a lot of words – 50K to be exact. However, this is only a quasi-winning line. Because while close to 20% will meet this goal, the unfinished 80% need to give themselves some serious credit because writing for a living is:
HARD!
But let’s back up. If you do finish this goal, DO NOT send your 50K into a million agents. Ewww. Not only is the work unfinished, it is unedited. All good books have one secret ingredient – good editing. Okay – maybe great editing.
If you decide that you want to participate, do not go blindly into November. Make sure you know where you and your words are going.
This includes, but is not limited to, creating storyboards and outlines.
While some stories and books can begin with nothing, this is the Exception, NOT the Rule!!! Take the time to create notecards and understand the 5W/H of your book…

If you have never studied the “Hero’s Journey” – DO IT! All
NaNoWriMo is really just a way to excuse your anti-social behavior in exchange for a great time writing. Use it wisely.
