The local markets are events that occur every Sunday morning in the large Piazza della Repubblica, in the city center. On these days, a large amount of people flock to the square to look at the stalls and maybe even conclude some good deals. Merchants are collectors who see pieces of their collections or exchange them with others of equal value.
The best-selling items are books, records, antiques such as pendulum clocks, vases, paintings, toys and even furniture. The book sector is very active with pieces from ancient private libraries, with precious covers. I personally bought a classical guitar in good condition and a vintage bicycle from the 60s on the past Sundays, which I had to restore later.
It is typical in my part to bargain on the price of objects: obviously those who want to buy, try in every way to lower the price, appealing to small imperfections or inventing some theses to support them. It is fun to watch these scenes because negotiations often become heated and colorful debates and in the end always ends with a strong handshake!
