Another weekend behind us, very few are missing at the end of the summer and the temperatures have already adjusted, a gloomy weather has characterized these days and has conditioned a bit the program that I had somehow organized during the week. In fact, I would have liked to spend a few hours at sea, in this period it is much more usable, there are much less tourists and the temperature just below 30 degrees has discouraged many people who preferred to walk in the parks or just along the sea coast, sipping some good cocktails in one of the many American bars.
However, I spent my time with my brother, who arrived in the city a few days earlier, about 1000 km away from his native city for work reasons and today he lives there with his family. My brother is four years older than me and works in a Newfoundland dog farm, mountains of fur weighing tens of kilograms, harmless puppies to hug. The Newfoundlands are a prized breed and are dogs also used for sea rescue, despite their size they are excellent swimmers.
The historic center always offers much more than it might seem, artistic and cultural events like this accompany visitors in streets, alleys and squares that are normally far from the shopping center or the most crowded squares. This is how I discovered real cultural beauties, often decorated with festive lights that highlighted interesting details such as the ancient stone used in the construction of historic buildings, dating back on average between the 13th and 14th centuries AD.
An intense scent of food and frying unraveled the alleys, many ladies of the older generation continue to cook delicious local dishes, and many pubs and taverns welcomed hungry visitors for the long haul. Many groups of young guys stormed some very interesting takeaways but we preferred to avoid the crowds.
My son enjoyed running all the time, the sometimes deserted streets motivated him to never stand still, to stop at every bright and colored light to admire it, to say some strange word in his language and to start running non-stop, between a small fall and another. At almost a year and a half of age he has an enviable strength and energy and is the driving force of our days. Every weekend with him is a question mark and it is not easy to keep up with him but the joy that he gives us with every smile of him is indescribable and we are ready to accompany him for the rest of our life.
