A couple of nights ago, after a long time, my wife and I went to dinner in a restaurant in my city, Trani. The occasion was not accidental but we were invited to this pub by a friend of ours, being his 32nd birthday.
The pub is called Tre Palme and in the 70-80s it was a reference point for the city as it was one of the few bars and the center of Trani nightlife at that time. The name is easily guessed from the photo: 3 huge palm trees, about 20 meters high, perhaps a little more, clearly visible from any area of the main square, rise towards the sky as if they were skyscrapers.
The pub is a two-storey building: on the first level there is the American bar, where customers can sit down and drink their cocktails; the second floor is used as a restaurant and excellent dinners are served. In summer, some tables occupy the outdoor space, a small lawn, well maintained and well decorated, with several soft light points to create a more intimate and welcoming environment.
Live music in the background formed by a duet who alternated in singing and playing jazz style songs, an excellent company for our glasses of wine and the platters of cold cuts and cheeses that alternated on our table.
Fortunately, the temperature was ideal, low humidity and a slight breeze that helped to dry the alcohol sweat. The situation contrasted somewhat with the regulations necessary to combat Covid-19 which required the use of masks in the evening and at night.
Avoiding aggregations in a pub where there is a birthday party is quite difficult, if not impossible, and common sense in front of a few bottles of wine practically vanishes. Fortunately, our city and our region have few cases of contagion but caution is always necessary for our health.
A really great evening, spent in the company of friends to remind us of past times. I love being able to be with my friends because they are our strength and our support against the adversities of life.
If you find yourself in these parts, I invite you to enjoy a good aperitif at the Tre Palme pub. Inside is the old sign from the 70s, a piece of history that is still alive in the city at the moment!

Un paio di sere fa, dopo tanto tempo, io e mia moglie siamo andati a cena in un locale della mia città, Trani. L'occasione non è stata casuale ma siamo stati invitati in questo pub da un nostro amico, essendo infatti il suo 32mo compleanno.
Il pub si chiama Tre Palme e negli anni 70-80 è stato un punto di riferimento per la città in quanto era uno dei pochi bar ed il centro della movida tranese a quei tempi. Il nome è facilmente intuibile dalla foto: 3 enormi palme, alte circa 20 metri, forse qualcosa in più, ben visibili da qualsiasi zona della piazza principale, s'innalzano verso il cielo come fossero grattacieli.
Il pub è una palazzina a due piani: al primo livello vi è l'american bar, dove i clienti possono accomodarsi e bere i loro cocktails; il secondo piano invece è adibito a ristorante e si servono ottime cene. D'estate alcuni tavoli occupano lo spazio esterno, un piccolo prato, ben tenuto e ben addobbato, con diversi punti luce soft per creare un ambiente più intimo e accogliente.
Sottofondo musica dal vivo formato da un duetto che si alternavano nel cantare e suonare canzoni stile jazz, un'ottima compagnia per i nostri calici di vino ed i taglieri di salumi e formaggi che si avvicendavano sul nostro tavolo.
Per fortuna la temperatura era ideale, poca umidità ed un leggero venticello che ha aiutato ad asciugare il sudore dell'alcool. La situazione si contrastava un po' con le regolamentazioni necessarie per il contrasto al Covid-19 che richiedevano l'uso di mascherine nelle ore serali e notturne.
Evitare aggregazioni in un pub in cui vi è un festa di compleanno è abbastanza difficile, se non impossibile, ed il buon senso davanti a qualche bottiglia di vino praticamente si annulla. Per fortuna la nostra città e la nostra regione riscontra pochi casi di contagio ma la cautela è sempre necessaria per la nostra salute.
Davvero una gran bella serata, trascorsa in compagnia di amici a ricordarci i tempi passati. Adoro poter stare con i miei amici perché sono la nostra forza ed il nostro sostegno contro le avversità della vita.
Se doveste trovarvi da queste parti, v'invito a degustare un buon aperitivo presso il pub Tre Palme. All'interno è conservata la vecchia insegna degli anni 70, un pezzo di storia che al momento è ancora vivo in città!
