My first adventure in lingerie! VERY challenging but fun, all improvised, taking an old blouse which didn't fit so well...
I changed the elastic and cut out a bit under the arms, then added a specific couple of darts....
It is very experimental! I spent all day sewing! I love working like this: having to think on my feet, as it were. I feel like we learn quickest that way - and my body is the most direct bridge between me and clothes! I like learning by doing, even when there are wonky bits and rumply stitches here and there.
It is not easy to work another way, like by following directions. My mind is a long way from average or typical, and many commonly used models don't fit my way of naturally visioning, which is a blend of thinking-feeling-imagining-vitality.
The project is probably around halfway through now. It is forming the right shape, but I'll add more elastic at the breast-sides, and then the strings somewhere... they were on the back of the blouse, before.
Sorry if the images are not in thw correct order! It is late, and uploading and sorting the images on my smartphone us rather taxing!! The mishmash of snaps gives a more accurate portrait of my process, either way 🥰🥰🥰🎨
I am not sure that the bra-lette will come together, but am still fairly enthusiastic at this point. The knickers will wait for another day/ wave of enthusiasm! Sometimes I tire myself by pushing into an overly-ambitious idea - but I do learn a lot, always.
I love the process! Especially the daring to cut into something and at least try to make it better... This material is a glorious colour, and silk with a cotton lace edging.
It is a fulfilling process to try and bring out the best in a garment, by seeing the beauty of the quality fabric, and making it a more functional item.
Looking very much forward to sharing more, if I succeed in creating this new underwear pair!
Clare.
