Hi friends,
I've been grinding for a long time, but I finally reached the Gold League! Sometimes, I keep losing battles, but other times, I just keep winning, and suddenly, I can open Reward Chests. Still, playing is so exhausting.
I think next season, they'll probably change the rental system to full-season rentals. Even though there are quite a few people against it, it seems like the decision is already made. This will put a lot of pressure on players who only rent cards, regardless of their reasons. Their costs will gradually increase, and there's a high chance many of them will quit Splinterlands. On the other hand, players who rent cards strategically are less likely to leave since renting isn’t essential for them.
I used to argue that a card rental market wasn’t necessary, but in reality, players have gotten used to it. Supposedly, the rental market lowers the entry barrier for Splinterlands, which makes sense in theory. But looking at the negative effects—like people renting powerful cards just to exploit risk-free arbitrage—it’s clear that while some restrictions are in place, as long as there are profits to be made, people will keep doing it. Without any profit incentives, though, Splinterlands would stop running. That’s why I think the economic model has always been the core of GameFi.
