Good day, amazing people of the Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hiveghana community. I am so delighted to be participating in this week's prompt topic: GENDER EQUALITY.
Right from when I was a kid, the female gender was not treated the same way the male child was treated. Some think that training a female child is a waste of money. Some families don't value female children; they think that female children are useless to the society and can't add any value.
The way my society values male children over female children surprises me. Most times I don't know if there is any tribe that values male children like my tribe (Igbo). Once you enter a family without a male child, the pressure is always high because there is no single peace. The wife is always on the receiving end because the husband will never give her peace of mind. The frustration and pressure will not only be coming from the husband but also from the husband's relatives. The husband's relative will go as far as marrying another wife for their brother.
Inequality is no longer a new story. Most of our mothers are not educated today because our grandfathers see it as a waste of money training a female child. They believe that training a woman is a waste of money since one day the female child will move in with a man and start up another family.
In most families it is this female child that the fall to training are the one taking up the responsibility in the family, and the so-called sons that the train are not doing half the things the female child is doing.
We have been hearing about this gender equality, and it is very important that every gender should be given equal rights, the same value and no discrimination between the two genders. which is that both the man and the woman are capable of playing the same role and taking up the same responsibility. I know of a friend that believes that she is a lesser human because of the way the father talks to her; at any small space the father gets, he will always talk down to her. Growing up with this mindset makes her think less of herself, less of herself, which limits and hinders her from some dreams. Currently now the female gender is making the country proud, just like the way the male gender makes our country proud.
I always tell people it is not about having a male child; what matters is how you were able to train the child, whether male or female. All are gifts from God. What we should look out for is training them well. I just look at
the fact that the world is developing day by day; parents are now giving the same training to both genders, and when they grow up, they become responsible for the society.
I support gender equality. A girl child is not a mistake, and trying for a girl child is never a waste of resources. Every child should receive equal treatment.
This is my entry on the weekly prompts #hiveghana topic GENDER EQUALITY.
